Job description

Position Summary

Olson Construction & Remodeling is seeking an experienced Lead Concrete Finisher to lead the installation and finishing of residential concrete foundations, footings, slabs, and flatwork projects. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for producing high-quality concrete work while directing crew members, coordinating daily jobsite activities, and ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards of craftsmanship.

As a Lead Concrete Finisher, you will play a critical role in building the foundation of every project—literally. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, leads by example, and shares our commitment to quality, professionalism, and exceptional customer service.


Key Responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Lead and supervise a small concrete crew on residential and ligfht commercal projects.
  • Plan daily work activities to maximize efficiency and productivity.
  • Train and mentor crew members while promoting safe work practices.
  • Communicate with Project Managers regarding schedules, inspections, and project progress.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional jobsite.

Foundation Construction

  • Layout and construct residential footings and poured concrete foundations.
  • Set, align, brace, and strip foundation wall forms.
  • Install reinforcing steel, anchor bolts, embeds, and foundation accessories.
  • Verify elevations, dimensions, and layout using laser levels and construction plans.
  • Prepare foundations for required inspections.
    Flatwork
  • Place and finish basement slabs, garage floors, patios, sidewalks, driveways, porches, and other residential flatwork.
  • Install vapor barriers, rigid insulation, reinforcement, and control joints.
  • Screed, bull float, edge, groove, broom finish, hand trowel, and power trowel concrete to achieve high-quality finishes.
  • Ensure proper curing and protection of finished concrete.

Equipment Operation

  • Safely operate skid steers, mini excavators, telehandlers, laser levels, concrete saws, power trowels, compactors, and other construction equipment.
  • Coordinate concrete deliveries and work with pump truck operators when required.
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and report maintenance needs.

Quality & Safety

  • Read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and elevations.
  • Ensure all work complies with building codes and Olson Construction quality standards.
  • Identify and resolve issues before they impact quality or schedule.
  • Maintain OSHA-compliant safety practices and promote a culture of safety.


Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of residential concrete experience.
  • Previous experience leading a concrete crew preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of residential foundations and flatwork construction.
  • Experience with decorative concrete slabs.
  • Ability to operate equipment such as excavators, skid steers, mini skid steers.
  • Ability to read blueprints and perform layout accurately.
  • Experience operating construction equipment.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with custom homes and high-end residential construction.
  • Knowledge of ICF or specialty foundation systems.
  • Experience operating laser grading equipment.
  • CDL or equipment hauling experience is a plus.
  • Ability to train and develop less experienced crew members.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry 75+ pounds regularly.
  • Frequently stand, kneel, bend, climb, and work on uneven terrain.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work extended hours during peak construction season.
