Night Preventative Maintenance

Job Summary

The Preventive Maintenance (PM) Millwright is responsible for performing scheduled inspections, servicing, and maintenance on sawmill equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This role focuses on identifying potential equipment issues before failure, supporting continuous improvement, and reducing unplanned downtime through proactive maintenance practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance tasks on sawmill equipment including saws, conveyors, debarkers, planers, kilns, chip systems, and material handling equipment
  • Inspect mechanical components such as bearings, chains, belts, gearboxes, shafts, couplings, and drive systems for wear or damage
  • Lubricate equipment per established PM schedules and manufacturer specifications
  • Identify, document, and report potential equipment failures or safety concerns
  • Replace worn or defective parts during PM activities or coordinate corrective repairs with maintenance leads
  • Assist in troubleshooting mechanical failures when needed
  • Follow lockout/tagout, confined space, and other required safety procedures
  • Complete PM checklists, work orders, and equipment records accurately in CMMS or maintenance logs
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas following PM activities
  • Support equipment reliability and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Work closely with operations to schedule PM work with minimal production impact

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 3 years of industrial millwright or mechanical maintenance experience
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and industrial equipment
  • Ability to read work orders, PM checklists, and basic mechanical drawings
  • Commitment to safe work practices

Preferred:

  • Experience in sawmill or wood products manufacturing
  • Trade school, apprenticeship, or millwright certification
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems
  • Basic welding and fabrication skills

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, and kneel for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Work Environment
