Job description

Job Title: Electrical Engineer

Job Description

The Electrical Engineer will design, analyze, and test mixed-signal printed circuit boards (PCBs) for oxygen and nitrogen product lines while supporting research and development initiatives. This role focuses on electrical hardware and electronic PCB design, including PCBAs, and involves close collaboration with customers, suppliers, manufacturing, and field support teams. The position offers a mix of design and hands-on lab testing and may be structured as either a contract or contract-to-hire opportunity, with sponsorship considered for qualified candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, and test mixed-signal PCBs (analog and digital) for oxygen and nitrogen product lines.
  • Design PCB assemblies (PCBAs) to meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability requirements.
  • Interpret engineering specifications and drawings to develop compliant electrical designs.
  • Develop detailed test protocols and write clear, comprehensive test plans, procedures, and reports.
  • Support in-house and off-site electrical testing activities as needed, including approximately one-third of time in lab testing.
  • Interface directly with customers as part of development programs to understand requirements and provide technical updates.
  • Collaborate with suppliers on component and sub-system development to ensure technical suitability and quality.
  • Provide innovative ideas and recommendations to improve both new and existing products.
  • Offer technical expertise to support Manufacturing, Field Support Engineers, and end customers in resolving electrical and hardware issues.
  • Contribute to bids and proposals for new, modified, or upgraded products by providing technical input and estimates.
  • Apply structured and systematic problem-solving techniques, including DFSS methodologies, to address design and field issues.
  • Perform failure analysis and apply prediction techniques to enhance product reliability.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical problem-solving to address complex electrical and system-level challenges.
  • Maintain an attitude supportive of continuous improvement, teamwork, cooperation, respect, and integrity in all interactions.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations and documentation for internal stakeholders and external customers.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience with electrical hardware and electronic PCB design.
  • Hands-on experience designing PCBs using OrCAD or Altium design software.
  • Proficiency in PCB design, including schematic capture and hardware design for mixed-signal (analog and digital) circuits.
  • Strong foundation in electrical design and electrical engineering principles.
  • Experience in writing test plans, test procedures, and test reports.
  • Ability to multi-task and establish priorities in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong communication skills with an emphasis on technical writing and presentation.
  • Demonstrated analytical problem-solving skills applied to electrical and hardware issues.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program is preferred.
  • 5+ years of electrical engineering experience is preferred.
  • Desire to become an expert-level user of modeling software.
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink for modeling, simulation, or analysis.
  • Familiarity with structured and systematic problem-solving techniques and Design for Six Sigma (DFSS).
  • Experience with failure analysis and prediction techniques is a plus.
  • Creativity, initiative, and a self-starter mindset.
  • Leadership skills with a strong customer presence and the ability to represent engineering in customer discussions.
  • Openness to contract or contract-to-hire engagement structures, with sponsorship considered for qualified candidates.

Work Environment

The role is primarily based in an office environment with occasional visits to a test laboratory to support hands-on electrical and hardware testing. The position supports a research and development team and involves approximately 65% design work and 35% lab testing. Work is performed using professional PCB design tools such as OrCAD and Altium, along with modeling and analysis tools such as Matlab/Simulink. The environment emphasizes continuous improvement, teamwork, cooperation, respect, and integrity, with regular interaction across engineering, manufacturing, field support, suppliers, and customers.
