Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking a results-driven Defense Project Manager to lead execution of subcontracted programs. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality products on schedule and within budget while ensuring full compliance with prime contractor requirements and defense regulations.

This is a hands-on, execution-focused role with direct visibility to customers and leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage full lifecycle execution of subcontracted defense programs (production, coatings, machining, assemblies)
  • Serve as primary interface with prime contractor program teams
  • Interpret and implement contract flowdown requirements (technical, quality, schedule)
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules (IMS) aligned with customer milestones
  • Track program performance (cost, schedule, quality) and drive corrective actions
  • Coordinate crossfunctional teams: engineering, operations, supply chain, and quality
  • Manage supplier and tier2 vendor performance
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to production capacity, materials, and delivery
  • Lead customer communications, program reviews, and site visits
  • Support audits, source inspections, and compliance requirements (FAR/DFARS, AS9100, NADCAP)
  • Drive recovery plans when needed to maintain delivery commitments
  • Support proposals, pricing, and followon business opportunities

    Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Operations, or related field
  • 512+ years of experience in defense, aerospace, or manufacturing environment
  • Experience working with prime contractors and understanding contract flowdowns
  • Strong knowledge of productiondriven environments (machining, coatings, fabrication, etc.)
  • Familiarity with FAR/DFARS requirements
  • Proficiency with project scheduling tools (MS Project or equivalent)
  • Strong communication and customerfacing skills

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting programs with Lockheed Martin, Raytheon Technologies, or similar primes
  • PMP certification
  • Experience with missile, munitions, or aerospace systems
  • Knowledge of AS9100, NADCAP, or special process controls
  • Background in coatings, thermal spray, or advanced manufacturing processes
  • Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM or EVMlite)
