Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership & Department Management
  • Lead, mentor, and develop Manufacturing, Mechanical, and Process Engineering personnel.
  • Establish departmental priorities and allocate engineering resources to support business objectives.
  • Manage engineering workload, staffing needs, and project assignments.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, training, and career development activities.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Engineering Execution & Technical Oversight
  • Oversee product design, manufacturing engineering, process engineering, and production support activities.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables are completed accurately, on schedule, and in compliance with customer requirements.
  • Review and approve engineering documentation, manufacturing processes, work instructions, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Lead technical problem-solving efforts and support root cause investigations related to manufacturing, quality, and product performance.
  • Support product development, design reviews, design verification, validation, and production readiness activities.

Manufacturing & Process Improvement
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S, and other operational excellence methodologies.
  • Support development and optimization of manufacturing processes, tooling, fixtures, and production workflows.
  • Identify opportunities to improve quality, throughput, efficiency, safety, and cost performance.
  • Monitor engineering metrics, process performance, and operational effectiveness.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Production, Quality, Program Management, Supply Chain, Operations, and Executive Leadership to achieve organizational goals.
  • Support new product introductions, process transfers, product transitions, and production scaling efforts.
  • Coordinate engineering support for customer requirements, technical inquiries, and production challenges.
  • Assist with supplier evaluations, technical reviews, and manufacturing capability assessments.

Quality, Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure engineering activities comply with customer specifications, regulatory requirements, and company quality standards.
  • Support AS9100, ISO, defense, and customer-specific compliance initiatives.
  • Participate in audits, corrective action programs, process validations, and First Article Inspection activities.
  • Maintain configuration control, documentation integrity, and engineering change management processes.
  • Support compliance with applicable defense industry requirements, including ITAR, FAR/DFARS, and military specifications where applicable.

Strategic Support
  • Support the VP Military Engineering in executing departmental objectives, strategic initiatives, and organizational goals.
  • Provide recommendations regarding staffing, capital equipment investments, process improvements, and engineering priorities.
  • Assist with budget planning, project forecasting, and resource allocation.
  • Prepare and present engineering performance updates and project status reports.

Requirements
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related engineering discipline required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • 8-12 years of engineering experience in manufacturing, defense, aerospace, or related industrial environments.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of engineering leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Experience managing cross-functional engineering projects and technical teams.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including machining, welding, fabrication, assembly, and production operations.
  • Experience with product design, process development, manufacturing support, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Working knowledge of AS9100, ISO 9001, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and quality management systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, military specifications, contracts, and technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and engineering change management processes.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Defense or aerospace manufacturing experience.
  • Experience supporting DoD contracts and military programs.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Experience leading engineering teams in a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment.
