Job description

Structural Steel Estimator
Location: Fairbanks, AK
Pay: $75,000–$130,000 DOE
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM

TDL Staffing is seeking an experienced Structural Steel Estimator to support bidding, cost analysis, and preconstruction planning for structural steel fabrication and construction projects in Fairbanks. This role is ideal for someone with strong analytical skills, estimating experience, and extensive knowledge of heavy steel fabrication processes and construction estimating practices.

In this position, you’ll work closely with contractors, suppliers, engineers, accounting teams, and project managers to prepare accurate project estimates, develop bid packages, and support cost planning throughout the preconstruction process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review project plans, specifications, and drawings to prepare accurate structural steel estimates and schedules
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and suppliers to gather pricing and material information
  • Develop detailed bid packages including labor, materials, equipment, and overhead costs
  • Analyze project scope, schedules, and site conditions to identify cost risks and value opportunities
  • Negotiate pricing and contract terms with vendors and subcontractors
  • Coordinate with accounting teams to support accurate job costing within SAGE software
  • Assist with contract reviews and budget alignment during preconstruction planning
  • Provide cost updates and change order analysis during project execution as needed
Minimum Requirements
  • Extensive knowledge of heavy steel fabrication processes, materials, and installation methods
  • Strong understanding of construction estimating, budgeting, contract review, and cost control practices
  • Experience interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents
  • Experience with construction estimating software including HeavyBid and Bluebeam
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills
  • Experience with construction site conditions affecting project planning and estimating
  • Experience with SAGE construction software preferred
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required
  • Must be able to gain military base access (Real ID required)
  • Background screening is a part of the hiring process for this position
  • Must support a drug-free work environment
