Migration Project Manager information

What does a migration project manager do?

A Migration Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing the successful transition of data, systems, or applications from one environment to another. This role involves working with cross-functional teams to develop migration strategies, set timelines, mitigate risks, and ensure minimal disruption to business operations. Migration Project Managers also manage stakeholder communication and ensure that all technical and regulatory requirements are met throughout the process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a migration project manager?

To thrive as a Migration Project Manager, you need strong project management skills, experience with migration methodologies, and relevant qualifications such as a bachelor's degree and certifications like PMP or PRINCE2. Familiarity with migration tools, cloud platforms (such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud), and project management software like Jira or MS Project is typically expected. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management abilities help drive success and foster team collaboration. These skills are essential to effectively plan, execute, and oversee complex migration projects while minimizing risks and ensuring seamless transitions.

What are some common challenges faced by migration project managers during large-scale data or system migrations?

Migration Project Managers often encounter challenges such as unexpected data compatibility issues, downtime risks, and aligning diverse stakeholder expectations. Coordinating between IT teams, business units, and external vendors can be complex, especially when managing tight deadlines and legacy system constraints. Effective communication, proactive risk management, and thorough pre-migration testing are crucial for overcoming these hurdles and ensuring a smooth transition.

Job description

The Elevator Pitch

Can you take an enterprise system initiative from a whiteboard to a stable go-live โ€” and own the date? Evolv is looking for a Project Manager,EnterpriseProgramsto lead delivery of the platforms that run the business: the quote-to-cash and financial technology stack spanning Salesforce, NetSuite, and the integration layer between them. How fast Evolv can quote, book, fulfill, invoice, and recognize revenue depends on how well these programs land. This is a handsโ€‘on delivery role, not a reporting role. You will create structure out of ambiguity, hold implementation partners to their commitments, work daily across Finance, IT, Sales Operations, Supply Chain, and Service & Deployment, and be the person who says a date is at risk early โ€” and arrives with a recovery plan.

Success in the Role: Performance Outcomes

In the first 30 days, you will:

  • Meet your delivery counterparts across Finance, IT, Sales Operations, Supply Chain, and Service & Deployment, in person and virtually.
  • Build a working understanding of Evolvโ€™s quote-to-cash landscape โ€” Salesforce Revenue Cloud, NetSuite, and the integration between systems of record.
  • Take ownership of the integrated plan and RAID log for your assignedinitiatives, andestablish real owners and real dates on both.
  • Produce your first executive status report โ€” concise, decisionโ€‘oriented, and candid about risk.

Within 3 months, you will:

  • Run the weekly execution cadence and produce steering committee materials on a predictable rhythm.
  • Manage your implementation partners against contracted deliverables, milestones, and dates, escalating scope or commercial drift early with a recommended course of action.
  • Drive the open decision backlog to closure on a clock, rather than letting decisions age into schedule risk.
  • Own the subject matter expert demand picture across your initiatives and surface resourcing conflicts to functional leaders before they become schedule slips.
  • Lead a UAT or cutover cycle with defined entry and exit criteria and traceability back to requirements.

By the end of the first year, you will:

  • Have delivered at least one major enterprise release through goโ€‘live, structuredhypercare, and a definedhypercareexit โ€” not an openโ€‘ended tail.
  • Maintaina single sourceof truth for program status across workstreams, so leadership sees one version rather than one per team.
  • Give leadership a live view of program health through reporting and dashboards, without a manual weekly scramble.
  • Have applied AI and automation to the administrative side of project management โ€” status rollโ€‘ups, backlog hygiene, reporting โ€” so your time goes to judgement and coordination.
  • Have contributedconcrete improvements to Evolvโ€™s delivery standard: templates, stage gates, governance, and reporting formats used beyond your own programs.
The Work: Core Responsibilities
  • Own delivery of enterprise system initiatives across Salesforce (Revenue Cloud / CPQ Advanced) and NetSuite, including the integration layer between systems of record.
  • Lead initiatives across the full lifecycle: requirements, design, build, testing, cutover, launch, and stabilization.
  • Coordinate delivery across the quoteโ€‘toโ€‘cash lifecycle โ€” quoting and configuration, contract amendments, renewals, rentals, certified preโ€‘owned, asset lifecycle management, order management, billing, and revenue reporting.
  • Build andmaintainintegrated project plans covering scope, schedule, dependencies, resources, and budget.
  • Run a live RAID log, managescopeand change formally, and secure the right approvals for schedule, cost, and quality impacts.
  • Produce executive status reporting and steering committee materials; run weekly execution meetings and support the executive governance cadence.
  • Manage system integrators and implementation partners; supportstatementofwork development, change orders, and invoice validation.
  • Partner with Finance on cost allocation, close impacts, revenue recognition considerations, and reporting requirements; track initiative budgets and forecast to completion.
  • Own data migration and validation planning, cutover runbooks, go/noโ€‘go criteria, and command center operations through launch weekends.
  • Plan and run user acceptance testing, and run structuredhypercarewith defined severity levels, daily triage, and defect burnโ€‘down.
  • Maintain the deferred scoperegisterso items cut from a release are tracked, prioritized, and either scheduled or formally retired.
  • Negotiate competing subject matter expert demands with functional leaders; translate technical constraints into business impact and business needs into deliverable scope.
  • Manage delivery in Jira andConfluence, andmaintain program documentation in SharePoint.
  • Maintainenough platform understanding to challenge estimates, interrogate solution design, andidentifyintegration risk before it becomes rework.
Leadership, Team Structure & Culture

You will report to theDirector of Strategic Programs, with a direct line to theVP of, IT, Cybersecurity, & Data Architecture. This role sits at the center of Evolvโ€™s systems transformation and works daily across Finance, IT, Sales Operations, Supply Chain, and Service & Deployment. The team culture is highโ€‘accountability and candid: risk is surfaced early while it is still inexpensive to resolve, decisions are driven to closure rather than left to age, and people are expected to own outcomes rather than status updates. You will have real latitude to build the delivery standard Evolv applies to every strategic initiative.

Where is the role located?

This role is based out of Evolv HQ in Waltham, Massachusetts. This is a hybrid role with an expectation of 3 days per week onโ€‘site. Fully remote candidates will not be considered.

  • Experience delivering enterprise technology programs, including at least three years on ERP, CRM, or quoteโ€‘toโ€‘cash implementations.

  • Handsโ€‘on delivery experience with Salesforce and/or NetSuite, including integration between systems of record.
  • Working fluency in business finance: orderโ€‘toโ€‘cash, billing, cost allocation, budget tracking, and how system decisions land in the financial statements.

  • Experience running structured cutover and hypercare, including go/noโ€‘go decisionโ€‘making under time pressure.
  • Strong written communication and executive presence โ€” you can write a status report an executive reads once and understands, and hold your position in a room of senior stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Jira, Confluence, and Microsoft 365, and comfort building executiveโ€‘ready reporting.
  • Comfortable operating in a highโ€‘growth, highโ€‘accountability environment requiring both structured planning and handsโ€‘on execution.

  • Hardware, manufacturing, or assetโ€‘intensive business exposure โ€” rentals, service, installed base, or asset lifecycle (highly valuable).
  • PMP, PRINCE2, SAFe, or equivalent certification, or a formal Agile delivery background.
