Schedule: Full-time, 4/10 hour shifts; Tues-Fri from 7:30-6:30

Starting Pay: $20.19 per hour

Location: Midtown Community Health Center- 60 E 3750 S, SLC, UT 84115

General Description:

This hybrid position plays a critical role in shaping the patient experience by serving as the initial and final point of contact for patient. The Patient Service Representative / Medical Assistant supports efficient clinic operations by managing front‑office registration and scheduling functions while assisting medical providers in delivering high‑quality, patient‑centered clinical care. This role requires strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to balance administrative and clinical responsibilities across in‑clinic and remote tasks as assigned.

Patient Service Representative Responsibilities:

  • Promotes positive customer relations in dealing with patients, visitors and other employees
  • Demonstrates caring qualities and customer service skills consistent with MTCHC values when engaging with patients, visitors or other employees
  • Ability to resolve conflict with others quickly
  • Uses two patient identifiers during any patient interaction
  • Correctly enters and updates patient information on demographic screens
  • Understands and correctly uses consent for treatment documents
  • Properly assigns sliding fee schedule to patients
  • Collects payments in accordance with MTCHC polices/ able to explain sliding fees and flat charges
  • Completes, scans, and labels HIPAA paperwork and other registration documents
  • Identifies eligibility for special programs (VFC, UCCP, Head Start, etc.)
  • Enters payment information correctly
  • Schedules appointments in accordance with visit types
  • Places appropriate alert notes in electronic health record
  • Reminds patients of: POI, co-pay, POR, medication lists and shot records
  • Makes reminder calls for pre-scheduled appointments regularly and document outcome of call accurately
  • Ensures telephone encounters are used correctly and messages are free from spelling errors
  • Verifies and updates telephone encounter fields, assign messages to correct recipient in a timely manner
  • Maintains confidentiality and HIPPA policies
  • Possesses necessary written and verbal communication skills to perform job

Medical Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Performs & documents laboratory quality control to include actions taken for out-of-range or unexpected values
  • Complies with VFC eligibility guidelines
  • Adheres to Universal Precautions and Biohazard waste guidelines
  • Assures rooms are stocked with medical supplies for each visit. Turns in weekly inventory to center manager
  • Understands & Adheres to Standing Orders
  • Uses USIIS in efforts to improve Immunization rates
  • Understands and follows ACIP Immunization guidelines
  • Uses two patient identifiers during any patient interaction
  • Accurately completes MA visit Encounters with all pertinent billing information entered correctly
  • Documentation of patient visits meets MTCHC charting protocols (CC, Social, family history, medical history, surgical history, hospitalizations, etc.)
  • Reviews current medications during each office visit
  • Tracks referrals/Diagnostic imaging to ensure timely return of results/notes
  • Tracks lab results to ensure return in a timely manner
  • Sends out labs accurately by attaching ICD-9/ ICD-10 codes and pertinent billing information. Processes specimens correctly
  • Correctly scans and attaches documents into ECW, attaching orders appropriately
  • Obtains and documents vitals accurately and completely
  • Responds to Telephone Encounters in a timely manner. Documentation is clear and complete
  • Assists in the training of students and new employees
  • Other Duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of medical assistant program OR may substitute education for 1-year minimum experience in similar setting OR may substitute if CNA certification is up to date OR phlebotomist certification is up to date.
  • Previous experience providing care to medically underserved patients preferred.
  • Required license- None
