Job description

Middle School Teacher Assistant

For over the past 30 years, Learning Community Charter School (LCCS) has been a school focused on fulfilling our mission: helping our students make a difference in their communities through what they learn at LCCS. Over the past 30 years, we created a dynamic culture and community focused on our core values of showing compassion, being accountable, and striving for growth. That means that we are a school where teacher voice and autonomy are not valued; they are essential to our success. Our students are kind, caring, and warm, and the moment you enter LCCS, you feel the joy of learning and building community. We are an Association of Middle Level Education School of Distinction due to our unique academic program, high academic performance, and student-centered culture and climate. We are the most diverse school in New Jersey in terms of faculty and student demographics, and we take pride in this fact. Come join our team; we are changing lives, changing our community, and the world through our important work.

Middle School Teacher Assistant

We are looking for a teacher assistant who wants to make an impact. You're right for this role if you believe that all students can succeed, you're hungry to grow in your practice, and you thrive in a highly collaborative, innovative, joyful environment focused on changing kids' lives for the better. This teacher assistant will support students in their classrooms, at lunch, and at recess. You might cover a class or substitute teach for a teacher at times as well.

Our middle school teacher assistants will:

  • believe in 100% student success.
  • approach teaching as a team effort, not a solo act.
  • take ownership of results and adjust when students struggle.
  • ย be open to feedback and drive to improve.
  • convey their passion for students' growth academically and socially and emotionally.
  • obtain a substitute teaching license
  • enjoy supporting students during lunch and recess as a time to build connections and bring joy into their day.
  • believe that stepping in to cover classes provides them with valuable learning opportunities.
  • be passionate about supporting students' learning and organizational skills.

The skills our middle school teacher assistants need are:

  • a passion for working with early adolescents (working in middle school is like the Navy SEALS: "many are called, but few are chosen".
  • ready to assist students and teachers in terms of facilitating lessons in science and social studies.
  • building strong relationships with students and familiesย
  • supporting students and teachers in terms of meeting the needs of individualized education plans and 504s.
  • flexibility.

Application Process

We're hiring with urgency but not in a rush. Our process includes:

  • A resume review
  • A preliminary phone or Zoom interview
  • A whole-day visit to LCCS to teach a demo lesson, observe lessons, and meet colleagues. We want you to know if we are the right fit for you just as much as we need to know that about you.
