Job DutiesAre you a natural resource professional who likes to be part of a team whose core values are integrity, professionalism,
accountability, teamwork, and cooperation? If you are goal oriented, have a passion for wildlife, and know how to help
others succeed, then a Wildlife Conservation Biologist with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) is the job for
you! As a Conservation Biologist, you will administer the wildlife conservation program in the Southeast Region,
collecting field data on various native bird and mammal species and work towards conserving their populations and
habitat.
Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities and day to day responsibilities of this position:
  • Administer the wildlife conservation program for the Southeast Region of Utah
  • Participate in conservation outreach with native species
  • Prepare grants, design projects, develop research protocols, conduct surveys, analyze data
  • Budget oversight
  • Hiring and supervise seasonal employees

Qualifications
Minimum or "day-one" qualifications:
  • MS degree or BS plus 4 years experience or directly related work experience equivalent
  • Knowledge of wildlife management and conservation principles and techniques
  • Knowledge of research and monitoring principles and techniques including sampling and statistical analysis
  • Skills with a wide variety of wildlife field methods including capture and handling of birds and mammals
  • Knowledge of computer software including GIS
  • Ability to work independently
  • Field skills necessary to work or camp in adverse or remote locations

Preferred or trainable/on-the-job qualifications:
  • Knowledge of the flora and fauna of Utah with good field identification skills
  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations
  • Employee supervision skills
  • Ability to work effectively on teams and interagency groups
  • Rabies vaccination

Schedule Code - AX - Employees in supervisory positions
Work Schedule - Monday - Friday with some weekends.
Work environment, working conditions, physical requirements -Ability to work in remote locations, often in adverse conditions independently. Overnight travel is often required. Working odd hours, late nights, early mornings, several hour travel. Some call out, pick up road kill, etc.
Certifications/Licenses - Driver's license
Miscellaneous - On-call and travel are required. Housing may be available in Price UT at regional bunkhouse for a limited time.
