Mid level CxA Engineer - Critical Facilities – Charlotte, NC
Our client is a regional data center commissioning boutique focused in Critical Facilities Assessment and Commissioning Services in the U.S. They provide commissioning, consulting and management expertise in Data Center / Mission Critical Facilities Space with the mindset to provide reliability, energy efficiency, and sustainability when providing these consulting services for Enterprise, Colocation, and Hyperscale Data Center Projects. We are currently seeking a Mid level Commissioning Engineer to support commissioning activities on Enterprise, Colocation, and Hyperscale Data Center Projects. This is a junior to mid-level role, ideal for someone with prior exposure to mission-critical systems who is looking to further build their career in commissioning. You'll work alongside senior engineers and commissioning leads to verify system performance, assist with field testing, and ensure quality documentation.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with pre-startup and startup procedures for mechanical and electrical systems
  • Support the development and execution of commissioning test procedures, SOPs, and MOPs
  • Help maintain commissioning logs, equipment checklists, and contribute to final reporting
  • Participate in the review of equipment submittals, drawings, and specifications to prepare for testing
  • Conduct or assist with functional testing on a variety of MEP systems, including HVAC, chillers, CRAC units, fire alarm systems, standby generators, UPS systems, switchgear, and PDUs
  • Support integrated systems testing and load bank testing efforts
  • Attend project commissioning meetings and assist with scheduling of testing activities
  • Interface with contractors, vendors, and project teams during testing and troubleshooting
  • Use tools such as data loggers and power quality analyzers under the supervision of senior engineers
  • Assist with the creation of commissioning documentation, including checklists, issue logs, and deficiency tracking
  • Maintain knowledge of QA/QC procedures and follow internal commissioning standards

Qualifications:

  • 2–6 years of experience in a relevant engineering or technical role, ideally in MEP systems, electrical power, mechanical systems, or commissioning support
  • Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering a plus, but not required
  • Data center or mission-critical facility experience preferred, even in a support or junior capacity
  • Knowledge of electrical systems (UPS, switchgear, generators, PDUs) and/or mechanical systems (CRAC units, chillers, HVAC systems) a plus
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills; familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a field environment, follow safety protocols, and interact with a variety of stakeholders
  • Familiarity with commissioning levels (L1–L5) a plus; willingness to learn and grow into higher-level responsibilities
  • Previous military experience is a huge plus! Candidates with electrical or mechanical experience in the Navy (Nukes, EMN, ETN, MMNs, Seabees), Army (Power Generation), Air Force (Power Production), Generator Techs, Coast Guard, or Army National Guard are highly encouraged to apply
  • Willingness to travel as needed for project assignments
