Job description

As a Manager of Software Engineering at JPMorganChase within the Consumer and Community Banking's technology team, you lead multiple teams and manage day-to-day implementation activities by identifying and escalating issues and ensuring your team's work adheres to compliance standards, business requirements, and tactical best practices.

Job responsibilities

  • Provide overall direction, oversight, and coaching for a team of entry-level to mid-level software engineers that work on basic to moderately complex tasks
  • Be accountable for decisions that influence teams' resources, budget, tactical operations, and the execution and implementation of processes and procedures
  • Ensures successful collaboration across teams and stakeholders
  • Leads team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices and SDLC/TLM automation to improve delivery speed, quality, and operational outcomes, while setting expectations for human validation, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and consistent use of reusable patterns across teams.
  • Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation and support capacity unlock initiatives.
  • Identifies and mitigates issues to execute a book of work while escalating issues as necessary
  • Provides input to leadership regarding budget, approach, and technical considerations to improve operational efficiencies and functionality for the team
  • Creates a culture of diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect for team members and prioritizes diverse representation

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on Software Engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience. 
  • Hands-on development experience in Java, J2EE, Spring Framework, JMS. Knowledge of Rest API services, json, swagger etc.
  • Experience working with tools like Terraform to provision AWS cloud services
  • Experience with AWS Glue, AWS Athena, and AWS S3
  • Experience with Kafka and Cassandra (data modeling, performance, operational considerations) or similar distributed NoSQL stores is required .
  • Experience with hiring, developing, and recognizing talent and leading teams of technologists
  • Knowledge of agile processes and test-promotion development
  • Experience monitoring production processes to ensure timely run based on support schedule; troubleshoot and resolve in case of issues.
  • Ability to guide and coach teams on approach to achieve goals aligned against a set of strategic initiatives
  • Experience leading responsible adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and delivery tools across engineering teams, including defining ways of working (review/validation expectations), measuring outcomes, and ensuring secure handling of data.
  • Good understanding of application, data, and object-oriented programming disciplines and knowledge of industry-wide technology trends and best practices

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Experience in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field and expertise in technology disciplines
  • Strong soft skills, including presenting, negotiating, mentorship, and stakeholder management.
