Job description

Position Overview
The CNC Technical Support position assists with new product programming and provides the first level of technical support to the Computer Numerical Control or CNC Operators. Operators use CNC machines to drill, grind or mill parts used in manufacturing Quaker Window and Door products. The CNC Technical Support position works as part of a team that keeps Quaker's machinery working properly. The CNC Technical Support position performs machine adjustments, troubleshoots problems, and completes machine maintenance.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide the first level of Technical Support on manufacturing machinery that drills, grinds or mills, monitor machine operation and display readouts to detect malfunctions
  • Respond to notifications of CNC machine malfunction
  • Troubleshoot 3D printers & CNC machines - define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; order parts to make necessary repairs
  • Train new CNC Operators
  • Learn to calibrate CNC machines
  • Read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, mechanical drawings and set up instructions to understand specifications of the machinery
  • Perform machine adjustments based on trend analysis of known issues
  • Perform maintenance such as setting speed and feed rates, cleaning machine parts and replacing work or damaged drill bits
  • Provide materials, tools, training and backup to CNC Operators
  • Train operators on new programs and general CNC operation
  • Communicate the state of equipment repairs to Production Leads
  • Comply with safety, quality, and productivity requirements and procedures
  • Assist the CNC Programmer with new product programming including programming for plastic printing fixtures
  • Learn & apply basic rules in GCODE & ELUCAD software to create CNC Code
  • Design and draw simple 3D fixtures in Solid Works CAD software
  • Use 3D printers to produce CNC fixtures, various alignments and go / no-go gauges
  • Translate instructions into computer commands so machines can perform proper functions to print necessary parts
  • Load control media containing programmed commands into control console of machine or enter commands to retrieve programmed control data
  • Prepare test runs to check if the machines produce outputs according to specifications
  • Load or unload parts in machines for testing, set components to precise tolerances utilizing CNC technology
  • Operate a CNC machine as necessary to produce testing parts
  • Prompt and regular attendance at an assigned work location
  • Interact with employees and customers in an appropriate manner
  • Confer on site with staff members with whom the employee must interact on a regular basis
  • Communicate via email and prepare reports
  • Review and analyze data and information concerning machine programming
  • Plan, prioritize and monitor parts creation
  • Complete assigned tasks/projects in a timely manner

Supervisory Responsibility
No direct management or supervisory responsibilities.
Travel
Approximately 15% travel is required to commute between the Quaker campuses to resolve machinery issues, for training or position backup.
Qualifications
An individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office software: Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints & engineering drawings
  • Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
  • Ability to work with fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry mathematical concepts.
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD - Computer-Aided Design software
  • Proficient with hand tools and machinery required to maintain equipment.

Preferred Education and Experience
The expectation is that the individual has achieved a minimum level of education and/or related expertise to qualify for this position.
  • Minimum 6 months experience with Quaker as a high-quality CNC Operator
  • Certificate or degree in engineering or a relevant field of study preferred
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be satisfactory

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday during normal business hours. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
