Mid Level Senior Power Bi Developer information

What is a mid level senior Power BI developer?

Mid Level Senior Power BI Developers are professionals who design, develop, and maintain business intelligence solutions using Microsoft Power BI. They transform raw data into meaningful insights by creating interactive dashboards, reports, and visualizations. These developers typically have several years of experience and are skilled in data modeling, DAX (Data Analysis Expressions), and integrating Power BI with various data sources. Their role often includes collaborating with business stakeholders to gather requirements and ensuring data accuracy and security. Additionally, they may mentor junior team members and contribute to BI strategy within their organization.

What are some common challenges faced by mid level senior Power BI developers when working with large datasets?

Mid Level Senior Power BI Developers frequently encounter challenges related to data volume and performance optimization when handling large datasets. These can include slow report loading times, difficulties in data refresh, and complexities in data modeling. Addressing these issues often involves optimizing queries, using efficient data models (such as star schema), and leveraging features like incremental data refresh. Collaboration with database administrators and data engineers is also crucial to ensure data pipelines are efficient and reliable.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a mid level senior Power BI developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Mid Level Senior Power BI Developer, you need strong skills in data analysis, data modeling, DAX, and SQL, typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Proficiency with Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, and experience integrating with data sources like Azure and SQL Server, as well as relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate, are highly valuable. Excellent problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and the ability to translate business requirements into actionable dashboards make someone stand out in this role. These skills ensure the delivery of insightful, reliable, and visually impactful business intelligence solutions that drive effective decision-making.

Position: Lead SQL & BI Developer

Location: South San Francisco, CA

Duration: Long term

Role Overview

We are seeking an Onshore Lead Data Developer and BI Expert (12–14 years of experience) to serve as the critical bridge between our enterprise customers and our offshore technical development teams. While this role requires deep technical expertise in backend SQL engineering and sophisticated Power BI architecture, it is fundamentally a client-facing position. You will act as a strategic advisor, responsible for leading discovery workshops, driving business requirements, managing executive stakeholder expectations, and translating complex business needs into high-performance, actionable BI solutions.

Key Responsibilities Client Advisory & Delivery Leadership
  • Stakeholder Management & Advisory: Act as the primary technical liaison for C-suite and executive stakeholders. Lead discovery workshops to capture business requirements and align technical solutions with the customer’s long-term business goals and ROI.
  • Expectation Management: Translate high-level business needs into scalable technical roadmaps. Proactively manage client expectations regarding feasibility, scope, and project timelines.
  • Global Delivery & Bridge Leadership: Bridge the communication gap between onshore business leaders and offshore technical units. Ensure seamless 24/7 development cycles, optimize resource utilization, and foster a culture of transparency and high-quality delivery.
Technical Architecture & Engineering
  • Database Engineering: Design and manage scalable relational databases within the Azure ecosystem (e.g., Azure Synapse), ensuring high availability and data integrity for enterprise reporting layers.
  • Power BI Architecture: Develop and maintain complex enterprise-level Power BI datasets, utilizing Composite Models, Aggregations, and Incremental Refresh.
  • Performance Optimization: Tune complex SQL queries and DAX expressions to guarantee sub-second response times across both the database and Power BI environments.
  • Data Governance & Quality: Manage Power BI workspaces (including Row-Level Security and gateway configurations) and lead rigorous code reviews to ensure the offshore team adheres to best practices in data modeling and governance.
Required Skills & Qualifications (Must Have) Technical Expertise
  • Experience: 12–14 years of professional experience focusing on Power BI Development, PL/SQL Development, and enterprise Data Visualization.
  • SQL Mastery: Expert-level T-SQL (Stored Procedures, CTEs, Window Functions) with a deep understanding of indexing and execution plans.
  • Power BI Expertise: Advanced proficiency in Power BI Desktop and Service, including expert-level DAX and Power Query (M).
  • Data Modeling: Mastery of Star Schema and Snowflake Schema design principles for advanced analytical reporting.
  • Microsoft Stack: Strong, hands-on experience with the Azure data ecosystem (Azure SQL Database, Synapse Analytics) and Power BI Premium features.
Soft Skills & Leadership
  • Executive Communication: Exceptional ability to translate complex data into clear, compelling narratives that guide strategic decision-making for non-technical business leaders.
  • Strategic Global Delivery: Proven track record of managing end-to-end delivery in a hybrid onshore-offshore model, navigating different time zones and cultural nuances effectively.
  • Client Relationship Engineering: Demonstrated ability to build trust with onsite clients, acting not just as an order-taker, but as a strategic technical advisor.
  • Negotiation & Scope Management: High emotional intelligence and the ability to gracefully navigate changing business requirements while keeping development teams shielded from scope creep.
Education & Certifications

Highly Preferred: Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate (PL-300) or Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203).

Education
  • Bachelors or Masters in Information Technology, Computer Science, or relevant field.
