Position Overview

As a Structural Superintendent (Steel) you will play a significant part in the success for Kiewit. You will function as a field supervisor and may have responsibility for multiple Foreman, and/or laborers/craft workers. You with be responsible for the organization, work methods, scheduling, cost control, conformity with drawings and specifications, workmanship, and assignment of work to accomplish the execution of the work, either directly or through General Foremen or Foremen. You will also work to maintain positive working relationships with clients, architects/engineers, suppliers, subcontractors, and job site staff.

District Overview

Kiewit Energy Canada is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta.  We are a major industrial contractor that work on projects that involve construction of oil & gas facilities such as oilsands processing, including steam-assisted gravity drainage facilities, upgrading & refining, midstream facilities, power & co-generation, terminal projects (ex. LNG, LPG, etc.), and major mine developments.  We also have a Modular Yard facility in Edmonton, Alberta. Our engineering branch is a leading-edge division that offers innovative engineering services for our current projects and new pursuits in Canada.  Our design services group are based in Calgary and Houston offering expertise in process, piping, mechanical, electrical and civil/structural disciplines.   
 

Location

We are looking for candidates who are willing to relocate to our Nuclear project in the Oshawa, Ontario area. There is no rotation available for this project at this time. After this opportunity, projects may be anywhere in Alberta, BC, and beyond.

Responsibilities
  • Form and lead an effective team, delegating responsibilities and setting goals
  • Assist in the hiring, training and development of craft personnel (laborers, ironworkers, foremen etc.)
  • Develop and maintain open communications with crews, Field Engineers/Coordinators, Safety, Quality, and clients
  • Assist in preparing work plans and scheduling in determining manpower levels, material quantities, and equipment requirements
  • Examine/inspect field conditions and troubleshoot problems, correct inaccuracies, and implement cost saving measures
  • Monitor and adhere to established budgetary guidelines for job, and ensure that cost control measures are being followed
  • Monitor job safety, and provide job safety training and awareness for all personnel
  • Monitor standards of all jobs and ensure that all technical specifications are being met
  • Develop entire job schedules, 90-day schedules, and three-week schedules
  • Monitor job schedule and coordinate work with contractors and deliveries with suppliers and ensure inspections
  • are scheduled appropriately
  • Advise senior-level superintendents and/or project management of potential issues, work interferences, schedule difficulties, etc.  Assist in resolving such issues as required
  • Perform other job-related duties as requested by your supervisor

Qualifications
  • 6+ years' construction experience with 1+ years being in a Superintendent/Leadership capacity in structural steel construction for industrial projects
  • Must be a self-starter, highly motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to quickly learn and understand various processes regarding Kiewit's policies, procedures and software programs. 
  • Ability to identify and resolve any problems that may arise. 
  • Excellent organizational, administrative, communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Strong experience in leadership, safety, negotiations, planning, and contract administration.
  • Passion for safety, with the ability to help us ensure that nobody gets hurt
  • Team player with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines, goals and objectives
