Are you a mid-level biologist seeking challenging projects, career advancement, employee ownership, and a great place to work?


Daniel B. Stephens & Associates (DBS&A) is seeking a qualified and motivated staff person to join our diverse technical team. DBS&A is a water resources, engineering, and environmental consulting firm providing comprehensive services in groundwater and surface water hydrology, soil and environmental science, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance, and natural resource investigations. Our staff values a work environment that is collegial, collaborative, respectful, and rewarding with challenging work and flexible work schedules. In this position, you will work hand-in-hand with a range of professionals with backgrounds in biology, hydrology, and geology, soil and environmental science, civil and environmental engineering, geographic information system (GIS) and computer aided design (CAD), and field and laboratory technology. As a subsidiary of Geo-Logic Associates (GLA), you will have access to 300 diverse professionals and 28 offices in the U.S. and Peru. There is room to grow personally, professionally, and geographically within our organization.

  • You want to put your master's degree in biology to work in the field of natural resources investigations and environmental science.
  • You have 5-10 years of experience in environmental consulting, biological surveys, and NEPA documentation.
  • You are highly knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of New Mexico.

  • You have experience working with state and federal environmental laws and regulations, and with state agencies such as the New Mexico Department of Transportation and the New Mexico Environment Department.

  • You like a combination of field and office work.
  • You have the ability to work with a team of biologists, field technicians, hydrologists, engineers, and GIS specialists working on natural resource issues in New Mexico and neighboring states.
  • You are highly effective in your written and verbal communication and are comfortable addressing technical audiences.


More about this opportunity on a day-to-day basis

You will work with a team of highly talented individuals on a variety of small to large natural resource and environmental projects, including biological surveys and monitoring, NEPA and Endangered Species Act (ESA) documentation and compliance, and wetland delineations. Typical tasks for a mid-level biologist may include:

Conducting field investigations to document the local flora and fauna and assess the potential for special-status species occurrence.

Conduct bird nest surveys for compliance with the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA)

Delineating Ordinary High-Water Marks and participating in wetland delineations.

Analyzing data and preparing technical reports (Biological Evaluations and Assessments, Categorical Exclusions, Environmental Assessments, monitoring reports, wetland delineation reports).

Working on project teams with professionals who are motivated to provide high quality services to our clients.


Position level and compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.This position may require some travel, including possible evenings and weekends, and fieldwork in adverse weather conditions.


Candidate Must:

  • Be eligible to work in the United States
  • Posses a valid driver's license and maintain a driving record acceptable to our insurer
  • Pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening
