What is a mid frontend developer?

Mid Frontend Developers are professionals who specialize in building and maintaining the user-facing parts of web applications, typically with 2-4 years of experience. They are responsible for translating design mockups into interactive websites or apps using technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js. Their role often involves collaborating with designers and backend developers, optimizing applications for speed and responsiveness, and ensuring cross-browser compatibility. Unlike junior developers, mid-level developers are expected to work more independently, solve moderately complex problems, and contribute to code reviews and project planning.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a mid frontend developer?

To thrive as a Mid Frontend Developer, you need strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, along with experience in modern frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue and a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with version control systems (such as Git), build tools, and UI design libraries is commonly expected. Strong problem-solving, effective communication, and a collaborative mindset help you stand out in team settings. These skills ensure you can create high-quality, user-friendly interfaces that work well in dynamic, cross-functional development environments.

What are some common challenges faced by mid frontend developers when working on cross-functional teams?

Mid-level frontend developers often collaborate with backend developers, designers, and product managers, which can sometimes lead to challenges in communication and aligning on project requirements. Balancing the need for delivering visually appealing, responsive interfaces while ensuring performance and accessibility can also be demanding. Additionally, adapting to evolving frameworks or integrating new tools as decided by the team may require continuous learning and flexibility. Successful mid-level frontend developers proactively seek feedback, clarify requirements early, and stay updated on best practices to navigate these challenges.

Job description

MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH FRONT OFFICE FINANCIAL SYSTEMS (TRADING, ORDER MANAGEMENT, ETC)
MUST BE CURRENTLY WORKING AT A BANK OR HEDGE FUND (NO EXCEPTIONS)

Role Focus

·         This is an individual contributor role, not managerial.

·         Candidates must be actively hands-on with coding—especially front-end using Angular, but also strong on web analytics and back-end analytics.

·         Cannot have delegated programming; candidates must have personally built and delivered solutions.

·         Must be able to deliver required functionality within tight timelines.

Team & Work Environment

·         Small, lean, flat front office technology team sitting with the trading desk.

·         Expect to work on 2–3 in-house applications and 4–5 ongoing initiatives in parallel.

·         The team backs each other up; you’re never responsible for just one application.

·         Exposure to business users and traders is frequent and essential.

·         Production-ready, minimal hand-holding, and high independence.

Technical & Domain Requirements

·         Microsoft stack: .NET, C#, SQL Server, Azure, Power BI.

·         Angular front-end development is a must.

·         Experience with web analytics and building UI for business users.

·         Must be able to code both UI and back-end analytics.

·         Excel analytics experience.

·         Familiarity with financial applications, trade capture, cash flow analysis.

·         Exposure to credit products (RMBS, CMBS, ABS, MBS, whole loans, consumer/mortgage loans).

·         Experience with loan-level reporting systems is highly relevant.

·         Knowledge of Bloomberg, Intex, CoreLogic, or similar platforms a plus.

Education & Career Background

·         Bachelors in Computer Science is preferred.

·         Additional certifications in finance (CFA, MBA, FRM, risk courses) are valued.

·         Candidates from private equity, hedge funds, smaller hands-on financial firms preferred; large bank experience is fine if they’re used to full-lifecycle development.

·         Mixture of technical and finance backgrounds is valued.

·         Mid to senior-level experience (7–12 years), but open to high achievers with at least 5 years.

Ideal Candidate Attributes

·         Hands-on full stack developer, strong technical skills.

·         Domain expertise in credit is a plus, but willingness and ability to learn is critical.

·         Not looking for someone transitioning to a credit analyst role.

·         Stable career history or evidence of vertical growth.

·         Consultants/contractors with strong hands-on experience are welcome.

·         Good technologists and strong programmers; ability to connect the dots and perform mental math.
