Job description

Location: Superior, Wisconsin or St. Paul, Minnesota

Reports to: Structural Engineering Department Manager

Are you a structural engineer eager to apply your expertise across diverse projects and continue growing your engineering skills?

AMI Consulting Engineers, PA is seeking a Structural Engineer with 4-6 yearsโ€™ design experience to join our team in either our Superior, WI, or St. Paul office. The preferred candidate will be responsible for assessing, planning, and executing structural designs on a wide range of projects, including new construction, additions, and modifications to existing structures.

Candidates should possess excellent written and oral communication skills, with impeccable follow-through, and take ownership of each assigned project. The successful candidate must have experience in serving the engineering needs of clients by providing exceptional professional service. They should be passionate about their work, enjoy variety, and problem-solving. This candidate should also be team-oriented, honest, and have a helpful disposition with a positive, โ€œcan-doโ€ attitude. Travel and field work may be required to complete projects.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead the coordination, planning, and execution of structural engineering projects, including new construction, additions, and renovations.
  • Prepare and review structural design calculations, drawings, and specifications to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Prepare or assist with proposals, track budgets and schedules, and forecast workload.
  • Work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
  • Support and mentor junior engineers and technicians, fostering technical growth and teamwork.
  • Conduct site visits, gather field data, perform research and analysis, and produce comprehensive field reports.
  • Review contractor submittals during construction to verify compliance with design documentation.
  • Develop construction cost estimates and assist with budgeting and planning.
  • Utilize current industry software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other CAD software for drafting purposes.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license with the ability to become licensed in additional states as needed.
  • 4-6 years of structural design experience, including work with concrete, masonry, steel, wood, cold-formed steel, precast concrete, and other common building materials.
  • Proficiency with current industry drafting and modeling software, such as AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, and structural analysis software such as RISA and/or STAAD.
  • Strong interest in growing into a leadership role within the building structural design group.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid Driverโ€™s License with the ability to travel.
