Summary

The Software Developer will sit directly within the Portfolio Construction and Trading group and serve as a hands-on technical partner to our PMs and traders. The developer will primarily work on developing, enhancing, and supporting proprietary applications supporting the full lifecycle of order creation, compliance and trading.

This is not a quantitative research role. The successful candidate will work on an engineering team to help with the design, implementation, and evolution of the Portfolio Construction and Trading Technology while aligning with broader firmwide technology initiatives.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Application Design & Development

  • Design, develop, and maintain proprietary applications supporting portfolio construction, trading, investment compliance, and related investment workflows.
  • Build scalable, resilient, and high-performance distributed systems using modern software engineering practices.
  • Develop APIs, microservices, and event-driven solutions that integrate with internal and external platforms.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and establish best practices for software design, reliability, security, and maintainability.
  • Drive continuous improvement of development standards, code quality, testing, and deployment processes.
  • Work directly with Portfolio Managers, Traders, Compliance teams, and other investment professionals to understand business requirements and translate them into technology solutions.
  • Participate in requirements gathering, solution design, and prioritization discussions.
  • Serve as a trusted technology partner to business stakeholders, providing technical guidance and recommendations.
  • Conduct code reviews and promote engineering best practices.

Production Support & Operations

  • Monitor and support production applications critical to daily investment operations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues across distributed systems and data platforms.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation supporting critical end-of-day and trading-related processes.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement preventative measures to improve platform stability and reliability.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of professional software development experience, with significant experience building enterprise applications.
  • Strong expertise in: .NET Core / .NET, C#, Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL), RESTful APIs and service-oriented architectures
  • Experience designing and implementing microservices-based systems.
  • Experience with event-driven architecture and messaging technologies such as RabbitMQ, NServiceBus and similar messaging platforms.
  • Strong understanding of software design patterns, distributed systems, and system integration.
  • Experience with source control, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile development practices.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact directly with business stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within asset management, hedge funds, investment management, capital markets, or financial services.
  • Knowledge of portfolio management, order management, trading workflows, investment compliance, performance measurement, or risk management.
  • Experience developing front-end applications using Blazor.
  • Experience with cloud platforms and distributed application architectures.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with market data, security master, portfolio accounting, and investment analytics platforms.
  • Experience supporting business-critical applications in a front-office environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using AI-assisted software development tools to improve engineering productivity, code quality, and delivery velocity.
  • Familiarity with modern AI development workflows, including Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, AI-powered coding assistants, and AI-assisted code review and testing tools. Ability to effectively leverage these technologies while maintaining strong engineering standards and code quality practices.
