Microsoft Silicon Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft's expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft's "Intelligent Cloud" mission. SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency, and delivering a trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide and we are looking for passionate, high-energy engineers to help achieve that mission.
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Storage Engineer to manage and optimize our enterprise storage infrastructure in support of Silicon Development. This role is pivotal in ensuring the availability, performance, scalability, and security of storage systems that are critical to EDA tool simulations and workflows.
The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise across On-Premises and Cloud SAN/NAS storage technologies, replication strategies, backup and recovery solutions, and performance tuning for high-throughput, low-latency environments.
This global role requires close collaboration with Operations and Silicon Design teams to gather workload forecasts, analyze usage patterns, and ensure the efficiency and reliability of storage services. You will play a key role in shaping the future of storage infrastructure that powers Microsoft's silicon innovation, operating at the intersection of infrastructure engineering and advanced semiconductor development.

Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and manage enterprise storage solutions across a diverse range of on-premises and cloud platforms, ensuring scalability, performance, and reliability.
  • Continuously monitor storage performance and capacity, proactively identifying and resolving bottlenecks while planning for future growth.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including silicon design, CAD, operations, and infrastructure engineering, to align storage solutions with evolving business and technical requirements.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for storage architecture, operational procedures, and compliance policies.
  • Co-lead storage infrastructure projects, driving technical execution and mentoring engineers to build team capability.
  • Ensure adherence to data governance, compliance, and security standards, including encryption, access control, and audit readiness.
  • Support backup and disaster recovery strategies, ensuring data integrity, availability, and rapid recovery for critical workloads.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
  • This role will require access to information that is controlled for export under export control regulations, potentially under the U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations or Export Administration Regulations, the EU Dual Use Regulation, and/or other export control regulations. As a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be required to provide either proof of their country of citizenship or proof of their US. residency or other protected status (e.g., under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) for assessment of eligibility to access the export-controlled information. To meet this legal requirement, and as a condition of employment, the successful candidate's citizenship will be verified with a valid passport. Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in enterprise storage administration.
  • 3+ years with scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python) for automation.
  • 3+ Years supporting Engineering at a semiconductor company
  • Expertise in storage platforms such as NetApp, Dell EMC, Pure Storage, or similar.
  • Strong knowledge of storage protocols (iSCSI, FC, NFS, SMB).
  • Experience with backup solutions (e.g., Veeam, Commvault, Veritas).
  • Storage-related certifications (e.g., NetApp NCDA, EMC Proven Professional).
  • Experience with cloud storage (AWS S3, Azure Blob, Azure ANF, Google Cloud Storage).

Silicon Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
