Description

McMillan Pazdan Smith is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Database Administrator to manage and optimize our critical data infrastructure, with a strong focus on Azure SQL Database and Microsoft Dataverse. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in leveraging APIs and modern integration technologies to connect disparate data sources, coupled with a proven ability to utilize Power BI and other analytical tools for data-driven insights. This role requires a proactive individual with a strong understanding of database optimization, scripting, and automation techniques to ensure the performance, security, and reliability of our data assets. Experience working in the Architecture, Engineering, or Construction industry is a significant plus. Responsibilities:

  • Database Management & Administration:
    • Administer and maintain Azure SQL Databases, ensuring high availability, performance, security, and integrity.
    • Manage and maintain Microsoft Dataverse environments, including entity creation, relationship management, security configuration, and solution deployment.
    • Perform database backups, restores, and recovery procedures.
    • Implement and maintain database security measures, including user access control, encryption, and auditing.
    • Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimization strategies.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Data Integration & Connectivity:
    • Design, develop, and implement data integration solutions using APIs (e.g., REST, SOAP), Azure Data Factory, Logic Apps, or other relevant technologies to connect various data sources.
    • Develop and maintain data pipelines to ensure seamless data flow between Azure SQL, Microsoft Dataverse, and other systems.
    • Collaborate with application development teams to design and implement efficient data access patterns.
  • Analytics & Reporting Support:
    • Support the development and maintenance of Power BI dashboards and reports, ensuring data accuracy and performance.
    • Collaborate with business users and analysts to understand reporting requirements and provide data solutions.
    • Familiarity with other analytical tools and techniques for data exploration and visualization.
  • Database Optimization & Performance Tuning:
    • Analyze query performance and implement indexing strategies, query optimization techniques, and database configuration changes to improve efficiency.
    • Conduct performance testing and identify areas for improvement.
    • Implement and maintain database partitioning and archiving strategies as needed.
  • Scripting & Automation:
    • Develop and maintain scripts (e.g., T-SQL, PowerShell, Python) to automate routine database tasks, deployments, and monitoring processes.
    • Implement infrastructure-as-code (IaC) principles for database provisioning and management.
  • Architecture & Design:
    • Participate in the design and implementation of database solutions that meet business requirements and align with best practices.
    • Contribute to the development of data models and database schemas.
    • Stay current with emerging database technologies and trends, particularly within the Microsoft Azure ecosystem.
  • Documentation & Standards:
    • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations, processes, and procedures.
    • Adhere to established data governance policies and standards.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including developers, analysts, and business stakeholders.
    • Communicate technical information clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Database Administrator.
  • Extensive experience managing and administering Azure SQL Databases, including performance tuning, security, and high availability configurations.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Dataverse, including entity modeling, security roles, business rules, and solution management.
  • Proven experience in utilizing APIs (REST, SOAP) and other modern data integration technologies (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Logic Apps) to connect and integrate data from various sources.
  • Solid understanding and practical experience with Power BI or other data visualization and analytical tools.
  • Proficiency in database optimization techniques, including indexing, query tuning, and performance monitoring.
  • Strong scripting skills in T-SQL, PowerShell, and/or Python for automation and database management tasks.
  • Experience with database design principles and data modeling.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • 4+ years of experience as a Technical Business Analyst, Data Analyst, or similar analytics-focused role
  • Advanced experience with Power BI, including data modeling, DAX, and performance optimization
  • Strong experience working with SQL, Dataverse, and Azure-based data platforms
  • Proven experience integrating and analyzing data from multiple SaaS platforms and APIs
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex, multi-source datasets
  • Ability to translate AEC business needs into technical solutions and actionable insights
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Preferred AEC Experience & Skills

  • Prior experience working in an architecture, engineering, or construction (AEC) firm
  • Knowledge of Deltek Vision and/or Deltek Vantagepoint, including project, financial, and labor data
  • Experience integrating or working with Autodesk Platform Services (APS / Forge) or Autodesk-related datasets
  • Familiarity with architectural, engineering, or project delivery data, such as fees, budgets, schedules, utilization, and project performance
  • Experience with building, space, or facilities data analysis
