Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to manage, optimize, and secure enterprise database systems supporting a critical federal research IT environment. The Senior DBA will be responsible for the performance, availability, and integrity of multi-platform database environments and will serve as the subject matter expert for database architecture, administration, and compliance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administer and optimize Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB, and PostgreSQL database environments in production and non-production tiers
  • Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and tune queries, indexes, storage, and memory configurations
  • Enforce database security controls including role-based access, encryption at rest and in transit, and audit logging in compliance with NIST 800-53
  • Support database lifecycle activities: patching, upgrades, migrations, and capacity planning
  • Collaborate with application and infrastructure teams to design schemas, stored procedures, and integration solutions
  • Develop and maintain database documentation, standard operating procedures, and disaster recovery plans

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
  • 6+ years of database administration experience across Oracle, SQL Server, and/or PostgreSQL
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, PL/SQL, and T-SQL
  • Experience with database security hardening and audit logging in a regulated or federal environment
  • Familiarity with NIST SP 800-53 controls applicable to database systems

Clearance: Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a federal Public Trust background investigation (MBI or HBI). U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate
  • Experience with cloud-hosted database services (AWS RDS, Aurora, Azure SQL)
  • Exposure to NoSQL databases (MongoDB, DynamoDB) in a hybrid environment
  • Experience supporting NIH, HHS, or federal research data environments
