What is a Microsoft Access Developer?

A Microsoft Access Developer is a professional who designs, builds, and maintains database solutions using Microsoft Access. They create custom forms, reports, queries, and automate processes with VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) to meet business needs. Their work often involves integrating Access with other Microsoft Office applications and ensuring data integrity and security. Microsoft Access Developers help organizations manage and analyze data efficiently by building user-friendly database applications.

What do Microsoft Access developers do?

Microsoft Access is a database management system that works in conjunction with a variety of Microsoft software, such as Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Oracle. Microsoft Access developers used these tools to design, develop, and implement organizational solutions for their company. The software can create queries, tables, and reports, utilizing data from these different sources, and can be accessed by multiple users at the same time. As a Microsoft Access developer, you must understand your clients' needs, then develop an information management system that works for each client. Other responsibilities include testing and troubleshooting the program and installing security features to the network.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Microsoft Access developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Microsoft Access Developer, you need expertise in database design, SQL querying, and proficiency with Microsoft Access, usually supported by relevant experience or a degree in computer science or information systems. Familiarity with VBA (Visual Basic for Applications), integration with other Microsoft Office applications, and knowledge of data migration tools are typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help developers understand user needs and deliver tailored solutions. These skills are crucial for building robust, efficient databases that support business operations and improve data management.

What are some common challenges Microsoft Access developers face when working with legacy databases?

Microsoft Access Developers often encounter challenges when maintaining or upgrading legacy databases, such as outdated structures, inconsistent data formats, and lack of documentation. These issues can make it difficult to implement new features or integrate with modern systems. It's common to spend time reverse-engineering tables and queries to understand business logic, and developers may also need to refactor inefficient code or migrate data to ensure ongoing reliability. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail are essential for overcoming these hurdles.

What is the difference between Microsoft Access Developer vs Database Administrator?

Job description

Build Solutions That Clients Actually Use

BabyBots is looking for a hands-on Microsoft Power Platform Developer who wants to solve real business problems - not spend months maintaining one small part of a legacy application.

Youโ€™ll build solutions across process automation, business applications, AI agents, reporting, and enterprise integrations. Our projects help clients eliminate manual work, connect disconnected systems, modernize legacy processes, and make better use of their data.

The role is ideal for someone ready for greater ownership, variety, and client exposure, with the opportunity to grow into a senior developer, technical lead, or solution architect.

About BabyBots

BabyBots is a Microsoft-focused AI and automation consultancy built around a simple idea:Less Friction, More Flow.

We help organizations improve how work gets done using Microsoft Power Platform, Copilot Studio, Azure, Microsoft Fabric, SharePoint, Dataverse, and related technologies.

Our clients engage us to automate critical processes, develop business applications, build AI-enabled tools, modernize reporting, and connect enterprise systems. We work across finance, operations, sales, field services, human resources, and other business functions where manual work and disconnected systems create unnecessary friction.

What Youโ€™ll Work On

Projects may include:

  • Automating finance, operations, sales, HR, and document-based processes
  • Building Power Automate cloud flows and desktop automations
  • Developing canvas and model-driven Power Apps
  • Creating Copilot Studio agents connected to enterprise data and workflows
  • Connecting solutions to SharePoint, Dataverse, SQL, APIs, Excel, and ERP systems
  • Modernizing spreadsheet, Microsoft Access, and other legacy processes
  • Developing approvals, notifications, document-generation, and exception-handling workflows
  • Building operational reports and dashboards with Power BI
  • Supporting Microsoft Fabric data and reporting initiatives
  • Implementing AI-assisted document extraction and processing
  • Troubleshooting and improving existing Power Platform solutions
Your Responsibilities
  • Participate in discovery sessions and help translate business processes into technical requirements
  • Build assigned applications, automations, integrations, and solution features
  • Develop reliable Power Automate cloud flows using appropriate error handling and monitoring
  • Create practical, intuitive Power Apps using appropriate data sources and security models
  • Configure Copilot Studio agents, actions, topics, and knowledge sources
  • Integrate solutions with SharePoint, Dataverse, SQL, APIs, Excel, and other business systems
  • Identify unclear requirements, risks, dependencies, and potential technical issues early
  • Test and troubleshoot solutions before they reach clients
  • Support user acceptance testing, deployment, and post-launch stabilization
  • Follow established development, security, governance, and deployment standards
  • Create clear technical documentation and solution handoff materials
  • Communicate progress, estimates, questions, and blockers clearly
  • Participate professionally in internal and client meetings
  • Manage assigned work with limited day-to-day supervision
  • Collaborate with lead developers and architects on more complex technical decisions
Required Qualifications
  • 2-4 years of professional experience in software development, business applications, automation, systems implementation, or a related field
  • At least 1-3 years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Power Platform
  • Practical experience building solutions with Power Automate
  • Working experience with Power Apps, Copilot Studio, or Power BI
  • Experience working with SharePoint, Dataverse, SQL, APIs, or similar business data sources
  • Ability to understand a business process and translate it into a practical technical solution
  • Experience testing, troubleshooting, and supporting applications or automations
  • Ability to independently own clearly defined development tasks and features
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good judgment about when to proceed independently and when to request guidance
  • Ability to manage priorities across multiple assignments
  • Comfort working in a client-services environment

Equivalent practical experience is more important to us than matching a specific number of years.

Preferred Qualifications

You do not need experience in every area below. Experience with several would be valuable:

  • Microsoft Copilot Studio
  • Power Automate Desktop or another robotic process automation platform
  • Model-driven Power Apps
  • Power BI or Microsoft Fabric
  • AI Builder or intelligent document-processing solutions

  • Power Platform solutions, environment variables, and deployment pipelines
  • Source control and structured application lifecycle management

  • Experience delivering solutions for finance, operations, or field-service teams
  • Relevant Microsoft certifications

  • Contribute productively to active client engagements
  • Take ownership of defined features and automation workstreams
  • Build and test solutions with limited supervision
  • Communicate questions, progress, risks, and blockers clearly
  • Produce maintainable and well-documented work
  • Participate confidently in client conversations
  • Balance development speed, solution quality, and practical client needs
