Job description

Microbiology and Immunology Faculty Positions

The Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology (MMI) at the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences seeks to hire two tenure-track faculty (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) positions with a focus on funded researchers studying highly infectious BSL3- or BSL2-level pathogens, including host-pathogen interactions and/or vaccine/therapeutic development studies. The University is finishing an exciting phase of research infrastructure expansion, including an $8M investment to renovate and expand the existing BSL3/A-BSL3 into 6 biocontainment suites, with shared equipment spaces and biocontainment entry/exit showers, for Tier 1 Select Agent, biodefense, and/or emerging infectious disease research. BSL3/A-BSL3 renovations are expected to be completed and CDC-certified by September 2026.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degrees and have at least three years of relevant postdoctoral experience. Current funding (including training grants, such as the K award) that is transferable to the University of Toledo is necessary. Successful candidates will be expected to develop/maintain an externally funded research program and contribute to teaching in our medical and graduate programs. In addition to BSL3/A-BSL3 space, applicants will be provided with an updated research laboratory (BSL2), start-up funds, and salary support commensurate with the faculty rank.

The COMLS has numerous centers and core facilities to support research efforts, including the Advanced Microscopy and Imaging Center, Flow Cytometry Core, Microbiome Consortium, Electron Microscopy Core, Histology Core, and other integrated core facilities. The University has additionally acquired 10X Genomics Chromium X for single cell and ATAC sequencing, as well as both the Xenium In Situ and VisiumCytAssist for Spatial Transcriptomics.
