What is Microscopy AI?

Microscopy AI refers to the use of artificial intelligence technologies in microscopy to automate image analysis, improve image quality, and extract meaningful insights from microscopic data. By leveraging machine learning and deep learning algorithms, AI can identify patterns, classify cells or structures, and even predict outcomes in biological and material samples. This enhances the efficiency and accuracy of research in fields like biology, medicine, and materials science. Microscopy AI tools are increasingly being integrated into both research and clinical workflows to accelerate discoveries and improve diagnostics.

How do professionals in Microscopy AI typically collaborate with scientists and engineers during research projects?

Microscopy AI professionals frequently work alongside biologists, chemists, and engineers to develop and refine AI-driven image analysis tools. They participate in interdisciplinary meetings to interpret data requirements and tailor algorithms to specific research objectives. Open communication is essential, as team members rely on Microscopy AI experts to translate complex AI models into practical solutions for imaging challenges. This collaborative environment fosters innovation and allows for continuous learning from diverse scientific perspectives.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Microscopy AI specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Microscopy AI Specialist, you need a solid background in microscopy techniques, image analysis, and a strong foundation in computer science or data science, often supported by an advanced degree in a related field. Familiarity with machine learning frameworks (such as TensorFlow or PyTorch), image processing software, and programming languages like Python is essential. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication are vital soft skills in this interdisciplinary role. These skills ensure the development and deployment of accurate, innovative AI solutions that advance scientific research and imaging applications.

What is the difference between Microscopy Ai vs Microscopy Technician?

AspectMicroscopy AiMicroscopy Technician
Required CredentialsTypically requires a background in AI, computer science, or related fields; may have certifications in AI or data analysisUsually requires an associate's or bachelor's degree in microscopy, biology, or related sciences; certifications in microscopy techniques are common
Work EnvironmentPrimarily office or lab settings involving data analysis, software operation, and AI model developmentLaboratory settings focused on sample preparation, microscopy operation, and image capturing
Employer & Industry UsageUsed in research institutions, biotech companies, and medical labs integrating AI for image analysisEmployed in hospitals, research labs, and manufacturing facilities performing microscopy tasks

While Microscopy Ai focuses on developing and applying AI algorithms to analyze microscopy images, Microscopy Technicians operate microscopes and prepare samples. Both roles are essential in labs but differ in skills, responsibilities, and work focus.

Job description

nEye.ai, a well-funded optical switch startup, is poised to revolutionize the future of data centers. nEye's MEMS-based silicon photonics optical circuit switches (OCS) eliminate critical bottlenecks in AI processing by enabling direct optical connections among thousands of GPUs and memory units. The company's SuperSwitch is an ultra-low power consumption, high radix, compact chip-scale design, offering hyperscale data centers enhanced performance, efficiency, and scalability.

Position Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Senior Senior Packaging Failure Analysis Engineer to lead root-cause investigation of complex failures across our silicon photonics, MEMS, optical packaging, and electronic assemblies.

This role will have a particular focus on cross-sectioning bonded components and analyzing material interfaces, including adhesive/epoxy attach, fusion and eutectic bonding, solder interconnects, and hermetic packages. The ideal candidate combines a strong foundation in materials science and interfacial phenomena with deep practical experience in failure analysis, microscopy, analytical characterization, and sample preparation.

You will own investigations from initial non-destructive analysis through destructive physical analysis, determine the appropriate characterization technique for each problem, translate findings into actionable root cause and corrective actions, and feed learnings back into product design, packaging, manufacturing, and supplier processes.

Over time, this individual may also play a key role in building and expanding in-house failure analysis capabilities, including cross-sectioning/polishing, microscopy, SEM/EDS, and related analytical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the Senior Engineer when collaborating with other nEye groups to optimize chip design for product system-level requirements
  • Driving specific device designs and collaborating on fabrication methodologies.
  • Designing photonic components and photonic integrated circuits to advance our optical switch technology.
  • Developing, overseeing, and performing photonic component and system-level testing.
  • Working cross-functionally with system and fabrication team members to develop improved optical switch capabilities.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Physics, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline.
  • 4-8+ years hands-on experience with Silicon Photonics in an industry setting
  • Strong understanding of microfabrication processes and related constraints on photonic component designs.
  • Strong understanding and proficient experience of photonic component simulation tools such as FDTD, EME, FEM, or FIT.
  • Strong proficiency in Python
  • Experience with photonic integrated circuit layout and photonics foundry tape-out.
  • Experience with designing and executing detailed photonic device experiments and characterization protocols.
  • Strong communication skills in collaboration, verbal presentation, and written reports.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and oral), and leadership skills.
$170,000 - $240,000 a year
Starting salary and title will depend on, and be commensurate with, relevant experience, skills, training, education, market demands, and the ultimate job duties and requirements.
nEye.ai is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
