Job description

Ametek Aerospace & Defense is looking for a strong Electrical Design Engineer with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering to join our team in Wilmington, MA.  This individual will be responsible for the development and modification of a wide variety of electronic technologies.   Position is for a success-oriented individual with demonstrated experience in the design, manufacture, test & certification of electromechanical sensing devices such as pressure sensors, liquid level sensors, temperature and flow sensors, and fuel gauging products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designs analog, digital and microprocessor-based circuits that conform to customer supplied specifications.
  • Tests and debugs prototype circuits to verify that the design meets internal and external requirements.
  • Performs the evaluation and selection of components and sources.
  • Prepares customer or/and regulatory requested documents such as reliability analysis, FMEA, safety analysis, qualification plans and reports.
  • Makes changes to existing designs for derivative product development, cost reduction or obsolescence.
  • Evaluates and approves design drawings, bill of materials, procedures and reports.
  • Ensuring successful transition of products/projects to full scale production.
  • Troubleshooting and failure analysis of complex electronic circuitry.
  • Working with program managers to meet developmental milestones.
  • Developing and tracing requirements (IBM DOORS a plus).
  • Collaborating with other team members on the development and design of embedded controllers for aircraft sensor products.
  • Provides technical project leadership to a small group of assigned engineers and technicians.
  • Projects will include designs for deliverable products as well as in-house testing equipment.

Requirements for Consideration:

  • Bachelor of Science, Electrical Engineering (EE) required
  • 1-3 years as an Electrical Engineer in a manufacturing environment
  • Aerospace experience a plus
  • PCB layout oversight, verification testing, and documentation.
  • Design for sensors and avionics for qualification to RTCA-DO-160
  • Digital and Analog circuit design including micro-controllers, analog sensors, and power supplies (experience with Microchip PIC18 and TI DSP a plus)
  • Knowledge of and experience with DO-254 and DO-160 preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience with DO-178 a plus.
  • Prior experience with FAA or other regulated environments is preferred
  • Expertise in designing circuits, electronics, and sensors strongly preferred
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills including hands-on use of oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other electronics lab equipment.
  • Demonstrated capability executing circuit card designs within a challenging schedule
  • Project management experience is a plus
  • Detailed component level analog/digital circuit design
  • Proficiency with an electronics design package such as Mentor Graphics, Altium Designer, or Cadence ORCAD
  • Some knowledge of C programming
