Job description

Embedded Software Engineer/Firmware Engineer with Microcontroller Connectivity

Emerging Technology Company Revenue Generating Company with Customers in various industries; Smaller Collaborative Team Environment, New and Interesting Applications and Projects.

Position Summary

Design, develop, debug, and optimize embedded firmware for hardware systems across the full product lifecycle, from early architecture and hardware bring-up through testing, release, and sustaining.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, test, and maintain embedded firmware for board-level and system-level hardware.
  • Define firmware architecture, select technology stacks, and support MCU (micro-controller unit) platform porting.
  • Lead firmware integration, verification, validation, and firmware update mechanisms (DFU/OTA).
  • Analyze system requirements and work with schematics, datasheets, and specifications.
  • Troubleshoot hardware/firmware interactions and lead root-cause investigations.
  • Maintain technical documentation, including specifications and test procedures.

Technical Skills & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years in embedded systems and firmware development.
  • Languages & Architecture: C/C++ development for resource-constrained systems.
  • Embedded Systems: Deep understanding of MCUs, MCU peripherals, interrupts, power domains, and RTOS-based systems.
  • Hardware & Protocols: Familiarity with microcontrollers, embedded processors, communication protocols, and hardware interfaces.
  • Testing & Lifecycle: Expertise in firmware debugging, validation methodologies, and full product lifecycle release processes.

Pluses:

  • Familiarity with STM32 microcontrollers and FreeRTOS / STM32 OS ecosystems.
  • Experience developing and working within 32-bit embedded codebases.
  • Lab Tools: Hands-on experience using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power analyzers, and hardware debugging tools to resolve power and board-level issues.
