The College of Dentistry is the largest oral health college in theState of Illinois, provides care for 35,000 patients a year, and has over 500students seeking dental degrees including DMD, PhD and master's programs.
About the Position:
The Department of Oral Biology at the University of IllinoisCollege of Dentistry is recruiting for a well-trained and energetic individualto lead the research program and the educational content in the area of oral,dental and craniofacial sciences with emphasis on oral microbiology, salivarybiology and microbiome research. The main tasks will be to build an innovative,collaborative, and well-funded research program, to develop and teach relevantcontent in predoctoral and graduate level courses and mentoring trainees in theMS and PhD Oral Sciences program. The successful candidate will develop andmaintain an externally funded, and independent research program focused onoral, dental, and craniofacial sciences with emphasis on oral microbiology, oralbiofilm, salivary biology, microbiome research, and related areas that advanceunderstanding of oral and systemic health, disease mechanisms, and therapeuticapproaches. Additional responsibilities include assisting with coursedevelopment and assessment tools, particularly as lead content expert in theabove-mentioned areas.
Candidates must have a Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree inoral biology, microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, biomedical sciences,dentistry, or a closely related field. The successful candidate must have demonstratedexperience in oral microbiology, salivary biology, microbiome science,host-microbe interactions, or related areas of oral, dental, and craniofacialresearch. Candidates must have exemplary records of publications and researchgrants. Special consideration will be given to candidates who have one or moreexisting/transferable NIH funding. Dual trainingclinician-scientists (i.e., DDS, DMD, or equivalent degree, and PhD degree) arepreferred.
