Job description

DC-Berlin
The Department Manager - DC manages and supports assigned team members to achieve business and operational objectives in safety, accuracy, production, and inventory control in the Distribution Center (DC). This role provides work direction and timely information to both the team members and leadership to help ensure overall operational success.
Major Activities
Operations Management
  • Responsible for establishing and executing plans that align to meeting operational and organizational objectives.
  • Ensures that all team members are following standard operating procedures and guidelines to ensure internal and regulatory compliance.
  • Identifies and quickly resolves production and/or communication issues which may impact operational success.
  • Implements and executes processes that ensure accurate inventory processing and delivery to our customers.

Safety and Compliance
  • Assures that all team members are working safely and address any behaviors or conditions that may increase safety risk.
  • Proactively partners with the Loss Prevention Team, DC and network leaders as needed to address safety or security concerns.
  • Conducts safety training and provide proper tools and PPE to ensure compliance with all relevant internal and regulatory safety and physical security guidelines and requirements.

Team Building
  • Interviewing, onboarding, and training of team members.
  • Provides the tools and resources needed for individuals and the team to achieve performance objectives and business goals.
  • Responsible for the growth and development of all direct reports.
  • Builds a positive culture and environment that prioritizes engagement, recognition, open communication, respect, and trust.
  • Promptly addresses performance, attendance, behavior, and conduct issues on an ongoing basis through coaching, appropriate documentation, and corrective action as needed in partnership with Human Resources and the senior leadership team.

  • Employs logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions and makes effective decisions or recommendations as a result.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate in a professional manner, maintain confidentiality and sustain a respectful workplace.
  • Manages time effectively, achieving a balance of "on the floor" presence and office time.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Must be open/able to work all shifts, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays.

Minimum Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Education
  • College degree preferred
  • Any other related training/education is a plus

Minimum Special Certifications or Technical Skills
  • Demonstrates computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and WMS applications.
  • Experience with labor management systems (LMS) is preferred.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with warehouse management systems (WMS).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good problem solving and change management skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including all days and shifts in support of business needs or special projects.

Minimum Type of Experience the Job Requires
  • Previous supervisory experience in a comparable operational environment or successful completion of Michaels' Leadership Training program.

Total Base Pay Range for this Position:
$58,000.00 - $77,000.00
