What is an MGO CPA?

MGO CPAs are certified public accountants who work for MGO (Macias Gini & O'Connell LLP), a national professional services firm that offers accounting, audit, tax, and consulting services. MGO CPAs help individuals, businesses, and government agencies manage their finances, ensure regulatory compliance, and optimize tax strategies. They often specialize in industries such as government, cannabis, entertainment, and technology, providing tailored advice and solutions. MGO CPAs are known for their expertise, client-focused approach, and commitment to ethical standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an MGO CPA, and why are they important?

To thrive as an MGO CPA, you need a deep understanding of accounting principles, tax regulations, and audit practices, typically supported by a CPA license and relevant accounting degree. Familiarity with accounting software like QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, and tax preparation systems is essential. Exceptional analytical skills, attention to detail, and strong client communication help professionals excel in this role. These skills ensure accuracy, regulatory compliance, and the ability to provide high-value financial guidance to clients.

Why are so many CPAs quitting?

Many CPAs are leaving the profession due to high workload, long hours, and increased stress, especially during busy tax seasons. Additionally, some seek better work-life balance, career advancement opportunities, or are transitioning to roles that require less intensive certification processes like the CPA license. The demanding nature of the job and evolving industry standards contribute to turnover rates among CPAs.

How does an MGO CPA typically collaborate with clients and other team members during busy season?

During busy season, an MGO CPA works closely with both clients and internal teams to ensure deadlines are met and work is completed accurately. Communication is key, as CPAs must regularly update clients on progress, clarify documentation needs, and address any questions. Within the team, CPAs often collaborate with associates, managers, and partners to delegate tasks, review work, and resolve complex accounting issues. This collaborative environment supports learning and helps maintain high-quality service under tight timelines.
