The New Mexico Goatheads are defining the future of professional hockey in New Mexico. Beginning play in the 2026-27 season, the Goatheads will compete in the ECHL at the Rio Rancho Events Center, bringing pro hockey back to the state and establishing a new chapter in New Mexico sports history.

This position is specifically for the 2026-27 ECHL season.
The Equipment Manager is responsible for managing, organizing, and maintaining all team equipment, uniforms, and practice gear to ensure optimal preparation and operational efficiency. This role plays a critical part in supporting the coaching staff and players, ensuring practices, games, and team travel run smoothly and professionally.
The Equipment Manager works closely with the coaching, hockey operations, performance, and team operations staff to meet the club's logistical and equipment needs while maintaining the highest standards of organization, cleanliness, and compliance with ECHL and league affiliate regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
  • Manage, organize, and maintain all team equipment, including game uniforms, practice jerseys, training apparel, protective equipment, sticks, pucks, and other hockey gear.
  • Ensure all player equipment is properly fitted and customized, including jersey numbers, nameplates, sizing, sponsor logos, and league-required branding using tools such as a heat press.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and coordinate equipment orders with Hockey Operations and Team Operations staff.
  • Oversee the daily care, repair, and laundering of uniforms and practice gear to ensure players and staff are fully equipped at all times.
  • Prepare, set up, and break down all equipment and locker room areas for practices, home games, and road games.
  • Coordinate with the coaching staff to ensure practices and game operations run efficiently and all equipment needs are met to support coaching objectives.
  • Oversee packing, transportation, and setup of all equipment for road trips, off-site practices, and games.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe locker room and equipment area at all times.
  • Manage and mentor equipment interns or assistants supporting team operations.
  • Assign responsibilities and ensure all tasks are completed to professional hockey standards.
  • Train interns and new staff on equipment procedures, best practices, and operational protocols.
  • Work closely with coaching, performance, hockey operations, and team operations staff to meet all equipment-related and logistical needs.
  • Communicate proactively regarding equipment issues, repairs, replacements, or special requirements.
  • Collaborate with management to ensure full compliance with ECHL, AHL/NHL affiliate, and league uniform and equipment standards.
  • Provide consistent support to players and staff to create a seamless operational environment that allows the team to perform at its best.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and commitment by working nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as required by team schedules, travel, and game demands.
  • Maintain professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality at all times.
  • Uphold New Mexico Goatheads standards of organization, cleanliness, and operational excellence.
  • Foster a positive, efficient working environment that reflects the values of the organization.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Head Coach, Director of Hockey Operations, or management.
  • All other duties as assigned.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Proven experience in professional, collegiate, or high-level hockey equipment management, athletics operations, or a related environment, with strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage inventories, customize uniforms (heat press, numbering, nameplates, branding), handle laundering processes, and coordinate equipment logistics efficiently and accurately.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to support multiple practices, game days, and travel schedules simultaneously.
  • Experience supervising, training, or mentoring interns or support staff, with the ability to delegate tasks and uphold high operational standards.
  • Excellent communication skills, professionalism, adaptability, and the ability to work long hours, weekends, and holidays while maintaining compliance with league regulations.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; frequent bending, reaching, and lifting; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
