Job Purpose and Position Overview:

The Naval Architect will design, develop, and evaluate the operation of marine vessels, ship machinery, and related equipment. This position requires a combination of engineering, physics, and naval knowledge that enables the creation of safe and efficient vessels that meet specific requirements. This role requires the significant exercise of independent discretion and judgment in matters of significance.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Designing system schematics for proposed vessels
  • Creating detailed building specifications for each job
  • Produce detailed designs of ships, boats and other maritime vessels using drawings and computer software (Rhino)
  • Design and analyze ship structures, ensuring they meet safety, strength, and stability requirements, and optimizing weight and cost considerations.
  • Designing or selecting the equipment needed to ensure systems work effectively and efficiently
  • Creating project timelines
  • Testing equipment designed to ensure safety and operational efficiency
  • Creating schedules for building equipment and systems
  • Overseeing the construction of vessels
  • Overseeing equipment repairs for accuracy and safety
  • Researching alternative energy sources and developing energy production devices
  • Ensuring that boats and ships comply with international maritime regulations and standards

Required Qualifications / Skills:

  • Rhino AutoCAD experience required
  • Act independently with limited supervisory oversight
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong ability to collaborate with other team members
  • Strong project management skills

Certifications / Licenses:

  • Professional Engineering certification (PE)
  • United States Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential
  • Two (2) or more years in a similar role
