Metis Justice Programs Manager

Position Status: Full-time (40 hours/week) Permanent
The Otipemisiwak Metis Government is looking for a full-time Metis Justice Programs Manager to lead the Metis Justice Program (MJP). Reporting to the Director of Justice, the Metis Justice Programs Manager will provide direct supervision to program staff and oversee daily operation. The Metis Justice Programs Manager will ensure programming remains responsive to the evolving needs of Metis communities. The successful candidate will be motivated, confident, and culturally sensitive, with exceptional communication skills, proven relationship-building abilities, and strong leadership experience. Above all, the Metis Justice Programs Manager will be committed to advancing justice and supporting Metis people and communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operations of the Metis Justice Program (MJP).
- Lead and support the MJP team in the development, implementation, evaluation, and reporting of programming, events, and services.
- Provide direct case management for complex for high-needs files.
- Identify service gaps and opportunities for program expansion and innovation.
- Develop, review, and maintain program processes and procedures to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Ensure all program activities reflect the values, priorities, and cultural context of the Metis community.
- Collaborate with the MJP team to identify and secure grant funding to support program sustainability and growth.
- Assist with financial management, budgeting and strategic planning.
- Contribute to the strategic direction of the Justice Department and broader organizational policies.
- Prepare reports, track program outcomes, and ensure compliance with organizational policies and funding requirements.
- Supervise program staff, including hiring, onboarding, training, assigning responsibilities, and managing work plans.
- Mentor team members through regular coaching, feedback, and performance evaluations.
- Create a positive team culture that promotes collaboration, professional growth, and organizational capacity.
- Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Metis citizens, community organizations, and justice system partners.
- Support the preparation and delivery of presentations, workshops, and training sessions for stakeholders, community members, and provincial/national audiences, as required.
- Contribute to the strategic direction of the Justice Department, including participation in Otipemisiwak Metis Government community events, and representation at professional conferences and/or meetings.
- Other duties as required or assigned.
Skills & Competencies
- Knowledge of Metis history, culture, and issues affecting Metis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Metis Government and Metis culture is an asset.
- Knowledge of the Canadian Justice System, Mental Health System, and Addictions Systems.
- Demonstrated cultural sensitivity, compassion, and respect in all interactions.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to supervise, mentor, and develop staff.
- Recognized strength in leading and engaging teams, fostering collaboration, and building organizational capacity.

Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in social sciences, human services, justice studies, Indigenous studies, or in a related field.
- Background in social work is considered an asset but not a requirement.
- Minimum of three (3) years leadership experience, including leading a team of direct reports.
- Experience with report management and developing, implementing, and evaluating programs is an asset.
- Experience working in an Indigenous and/or non-profit setting is an asset.
- Experience working in the justice field is an asset.
- Training in Trauma-Informed Care and Indigenous Awareness Training are considered assets.
Other Requirements
- Position will be based in office in Edmonton, Alberta.
- Ability to work a regular schedule of Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM, as well as flexible schedule of days, evenings, and weekends.
- Travel within Alberta and out-of-province is required.
- Reliable transportation and valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License are required.
- Acceptable attainment of a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check and an Intervention Record Check is required.
