Job Description

The Metallurgical & Process Engineering Superintendent is a senior technical leader responsible for metallurgy, process engineering, and laboratory functions at SSR Mining’s Cripple Creek & Victor (CC&V) Gold Mine. Reporting to the Process Manager, this role leads technical teams responsible for supporting safe, reliable, and efficient gold production while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, regulatory, and quality standards. The Metallurgical & Process Engineering Superintendent provides technical leadership to achieve production targets, maintain strong QA/QC standards, resolve operational challenges, and identify opportunities to improve metallurgical recovery, plant performance, reliability, and cost efficiency. Working collaboratively with Process Operations, Maintenance, Mine Operations, and other site teams, this position drives continuous improvement and supports CC&V’s overall production and business objectives.

Day to Day
  • Production & KPI Management: Direct the metallurgy team to achieve daily/weekly gold or product production targets, monitor KPIs, and report performance to management
  • Process Oversight: Monitor and control plant performance, identify bottlenecks, risks, and technical consequences; coordinate with Process operations to implement daily strategies
  • Cost & Efficiency Optimization: Monitor gold loading/stripping efficiencies. Minimize reagent consumption and unit costs by optimizing operating parameters; set metallurgical, sampling, and laboratory standards
  • Data & Reporting: Ensure accurate, timely completion of routine and forecast reporting (weekly, monthly, annual) and maintain robust metallurgical data/model management systems
  • Project Leadership: Lead multiple concurrent projects to improve metallurgical performance, including capital upgrades, process changes, and plant modifications
  • Risk & Maintenance Planning: Develop risk mitigation plans for plant operations and infrastructure; plan metallurgical equipment maintenance/replacement in line with mine life
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure strict adherence to EHS standards, environmental regulations (e.g., cyanide management codes), and safety protocols
  • Technology & Innovation: Introduce new real-time instruments, automation, and digitalization initiatives to improve process control and efficiency
  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor technical teams, including metallurgists, lab staff, and process engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and participatory management
Is This You??
  • Strong metallurgical and process engineering expertise, with experience in heap leach operations, metallurgical accounting and balancing, water balance, crushing, and ADR processes preferred.
  • Proficiency in QA/QC, laboratory operations, metallurgical accounting, and process control systems.
  • Experience with root cause analysis, statistical process control, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong project management and change management capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and collaborate effectively with Mining, Engineering, Maintenance, Process Operations, and other site departments.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership, develop team members, and effectively communicate technical information to both technical and operational stakeholders.
Working Conditions & Environment

This role involves working in both office and field environments, including outdoor work at an active mine site with exposure to dust, noise, industrial equipment, and varying weather conditions. The Cripple Creek & Victor (CC&V) Mine operates at elevations ranging from approximately 9,400 to 10,600 feet above sea level. Work may be performed in and around outdoor heap leach facilities with rocky, sloping, and uneven terrain; ADR processing facilities; and laboratory, assay, and metallurgical testing areas. The position may involve working in areas where industrial processing chemicals, including cyanide, caustic solutions, and acidic solutions, are present, as well as areas containing sample preparation and analytical equipment.
