OTTO is developing the world's first fifth-generation business jet, designed for sustainability through the innovative use of advanced super-laminar aerodynamics and high-precision, net-shaped composites. About the Role

Otto Aerospace is seeking an Engineer, Metallic Materials and Processes to be a member of our team. The ideal candidate has an interest in materials and processes and a willingness to learn. Otto Aerospace is seeking engineers, who are comfortable working from first principles, work great in a team atmosphere and get things done. 

The successful candidate will join the Materials and Processes department. This department advises on material selection and associated best practices, properties and allowables. They also author governing documents, test documents, and specifications related to materials and processes to be consumed in the design, fabrication, assembly, inspection and repair of Otto aircraft.  Additionally, the department interfaces with manufacturing suppliers, ensuring all efforts related to materials and processes conform to Otto prescribed requirements. 

What You'll Do 

  • Provide guidance on matters relating to metallic materials and process to the Design and Manufacturing teams during product development and operation including fasteners and hardware. 
  • Provide guidance to the Design team regarding metallic material corrosion protection, heat treatment, coatings and finishes. 
  • Author materials and process specifications, test plans and reports. 
  • Support multi-disciplinary configuration development and trade studies. 
  • Review engineering definition for release in the product lifecycle system (PLM). 

Who You Are 

Education 

  • B.S. in Material Science, Manufacturing, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent 

Experience 

  • 3-5+ years of aircraft metallic M&P experience (or 2+ with M.S.) 
  • Knowledge of industry standard materials and processes for metallic (required) and non-metallic (a plus) materials. 
  • Knowledge of metallic material fabrication techniques, such as machining, welding and sheetmetal forming

  • Must be able to stand on feet and walk around for extended periods of time, sit at desk for prolonged periods of time and work on computer, and must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. 

Where You'll Be 

**This role is on-site at our facility at Meacham Airport in Ft Worth, TX and will transition to the permanent headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida upon facility readiness.
