Job description

Metal Framing Layout Specialist
Company: Blue Line Drywall
Location: Long Branch
Job Type: Full-time
Pay Range: $50,000-85,000 based on experience
About Blue Line Drywall
Blue Line Drywall is a commercial drywall and metal framing contractor known for clean, accurate, on-schedule work. We take layout seriously because everything that follows - framing, drywall, finishing, and every trade that comes behind us - depends on it being right the first time. We're looking for a Metal Framing Layout Specialist who treats precision as a craft.
Position Summary
The Metal Framing Layout Specialist is responsible for translating architectural and structural drawings into accurate field layout for light-gauge metal framing. You'll establish control lines and reference points, lay out walls, partitions, soffits, and ceilings on the deck and floor, and verify that framing is built to plan. Your work sets the standard for the entire job - accuracy here saves time, money, and rework everywhere downstream.
Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret architectural, structural, and reflected ceiling plans to lay out wall partitions, door and window openings, soffits, bulkheads, and ceiling grids.
  • Establish control lines, reference lines, and gridlines; transfer layout points from floor to overhead deck.
  • Run layout using chalk lines, laser levels, plumb bobs, tape measures, and other standard layout tools.
  • Verify dimensions, elevations, and square against the drawings before framing begins.
  • Identify and flag conflicts, drawing discrepancies, or field conditions that affect layout, and coordinate resolutions with the foreman and other trades (MEP).
  • Lay out top and bottom track locations and partition types per the wall-type legend and fire-rated/UL assembly requirements.
  • Perform as-built verification and field measurements as needed.
  • Maintain layout tools and equipment in good working order.
  • Work safely and keep the work area clean and organized in accordance with company and OSHA standards.
Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of commercial metal framing experience, with hands-on layout experience.
  • Strong blueprint and shop-drawing reading skills, including wall-type legends, RCPs, and dimension strings.
  • Solid working math: fractions, geometry, measurements, and basic angles.
  • Proficiency with standard layout tools (chalk line, laser level, plumb bob, tape).
  • Understanding of light-gauge steel framing systems, track and stud types, and gauges.
  • Familiarity with fire-rated and UL assemblies.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to catch errors before they get built.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or lead a small layout crew.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with BIM/coordination models and digital layout workflows.
  • Experience coordinating layout with MEP trades on larger commercial projects.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Ability to read and lay out from points exported from a coordination model.
Physical Requirements
  • Able to stand, kneel, bend, and walk job sites for full shifts.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working on ladders, scaffolding, and lifts at heights.
  • Able to work in active construction environments with varying temperatures and conditions.
Compensation & Benefits
  • $50,000-85,000 based on experience
  • Medical / Dental / Vision insurance
  • 401k after 1 year of employment
  • Paid time off & Holidays
  • Vehicle/mileage, gas allowance, etc.
