Position Title: Sheet Metal Estimator
Department: Estimating
Reports To: Senior Estimator / Estimating Manager
Location: Dallas, TX
Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Sheet Metal Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately estimating the cost, resources, and time required for sheet metal projects within the mechanical contracting sector. This role involves analyzing project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to prepare detailed and competitive bids. The Sheet Metal Estimator will work closely with project managers, engineers, and other team members to ensure successful project execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Estimate Preparation: Review project plans, specifications, and drawings to prepare detailed cost estimates for sheet metal works.
  • Material Takeoff: Conduct material takeoffs to determine the quantity of sheet metal and other materials required for the project.
  • Cost Analysis: Analyze labor, material, and equipment costs to prepare accurate and competitive bids.
  • Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination: Obtain and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing and quality standards.
  • Bid Submission: Prepare and submit detailed bid proposals in a timely manner, ensuring all required documentation is included.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other team members to develop comprehensive project plans and schedules.
  • Value Engineering: Identify cost-saving opportunities and alternative solutions to enhance project value without compromising quality.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of estimates, bids, and correspondence for future reference and project tracking.
  • Market Analysis: Stay updated on market trends, material prices, and industry standards to ensure competitive and accurate estimating.
  • Client Interaction: Communicate with clients and architects to clarify project requirements and address any questions or concerns.
  • Post-Bid Activities: Assist in post-bid negotiations, contract reviews, and project handovers to the execution team.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in estimating sheet metal work within the mechanical contracting industry.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in estimating software, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with HVAC systems and ductwork design is a plus.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and mathematical skills to perform accurate cost calculations and assessments.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in preparing estimates and reviewing project documents.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with team members, clients, and vendors.
  • Time Management: Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
