Our internship positions will be mentored to support users of Microsoft SharePoint sites and related tools. This intern will work with the team to provide support for end user SharePoint and Microsoft 365 capabilities to enhance the employee experience and to optimize end user capabilities using M365 tools. This position is a great opportunity to gain system management and end user support experience and grow their knowledge of SharePoint and Microsoft 365 capabilities and associated tools and systems. Through practical field experience and mentoring, a successful candidate will gain significant professional confidence and people skills.

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • SharePoint site content creation 15%

  • New product research 10%

  • SharePoint support (inbox management) 10%

  • Organization and meta-tagging of department and support documentation (over 10k documents) 15%

  • Site migration assistance 10%

  • Day-to-day user questions and needs (as able) 15%

  • Maintain SharePoint site for user M365 information with updates and new materials 15%

  • Assistance users with workflow technologies (after training) 10%


This position is for a May 24, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship's initial term based on the candidate's successful performance and Xcel Energy's business needs.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Current student, Freshman or higher

  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Computer Science/IT/Software Engineering or related systems management/support degree.

  • Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Coursework in document management, cloud services, and/or Microsoft 365 tools is beneficial.

  • Effective time management.

  • Strong problem-solving/analytical skills.

  • Proficient communication skills.

  • Quick learning ability.

  • Independent and team work capabilities.

  • Eagerness for professional growth through practical experience/mentoring.

  • Desire to develop significant people skills through user interactions/support activities.

  • Understanding document management, collaborative workspaces in SharePoint.

  • Basic system management principles.

  • User experience design insight helpful.

  • Data security/compliance awareness in Microsoft 365 helpful.
