What is a meta contractor?

A Meta Contractor is an independent professional or agency worker hired by Meta on a contract basis rather than as a full-time employee. These contractors work in various roles, such as content moderation, software development, marketing, or user support. They typically work for a third-party staffing agency that manages their employment terms, benefits, and payroll. While contractors contribute to Meta's projects, they do not receive the same benefits and job security as direct Meta employees.

What does a typical project lifecycle look like for a meta contractor?

As a Meta Contractor, you are usually involved in the project from the initial planning stages through execution and final delivery, collaborating closely with various Meta teams, external vendors, and stakeholders. Projects can range from software development and virtual event coordination to deploying new features on Meta platforms. You may participate in regular status meetings, provide progress updates, and troubleshoot technical or logistical issues as they arise. The work environment is often fast-paced and highly collaborative, requiring quick adaptation to new tools and processes. This structure offers valuable opportunities to expand your skill set and potentially secure long-term or more advanced roles within the organization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the meta contractor position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Meta Contractor, you need a strong background in project management, digital collaboration, and experience working with augmented or virtual reality platforms, often supported by relevant industry certifications or technical training. Familiarity with Meta’s suite of products, collaborative tools like Slack and Trello, and knowledge of version control systems such as Git are often required. Excellent communication, adaptability, and problem-solving skills enable you to work effectively with cross-functional teams and manage client expectations. These capabilities are crucial for consistently delivering high-quality results in rapidly evolving, technology-driven environments.

Job description

Company Description

You Squared Media is an award-winning, full-service advertising agency based in Houston, Texas, with more than 30 years of experience helping clients grow through strategic, results-driven marketing.

We serve as a hands-on strategic partner to our clients, developing customized marketing solutions based on each client's goals, audience, budget, and brand. Our capabilities span traditional media, digital advertising, social media, graphic design, and strategic media planning—all focused on maximizing visibility, performance, and return on investment.

Our team values transparency, collaboration, responsiveness, exceptional client service, and making every marketing dollar work harder.

Role Description

You Squared Media is seeking an experienced Google Ads & Meta Ads Specialist to join our team on a contract basis. We are looking for a hands-on paid media professional who can confidently manage campaigns from strategy and setup through optimization, reporting, and ongoing performance improvement.

The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience managing Google Ads and Meta advertising for multiple clients and understands how to turn client objectives and budgets into effective, measurable paid media strategies.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop, launch, manage, and optimize campaigns across Google Ads and Meta Ads Manager.
  • Manage Google Search, Display, Performance Max, YouTube, remarketing, and other campaign types as appropriate.
  • Manage Meta campaigns across Facebook and Instagram, including prospecting, retargeting, lead generation, and conversion-focused campaigns.
  • Conduct keyword research, audience development, competitive research, and campaign planning.
  • Monitor campaign pacing, budgets, leads, conversions, cost per acquisition, ROAS, and other key performance indicators.
  • Continuously optimize campaigns based on performance data rather than relying solely on automated platform recommendations.
  • Implement and troubleshoot conversion tracking, including Google Tag Manager, GA4, Google Ads conversion tracking, Meta Pixel, and related tools.
  • Identify performance issues and proactively recommend solutions and opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepare clear, client-friendly performance reports that explain not only what happened, but why it happened and what we should do next.
  • Collaborate with our internal team to ensure paid media strategies align with client goals, budgets, messaging, and overall marketing plans.
  • Stay current on Google and Meta platform changes, advertising policies, new features, and paid media best practices.
Qualifications
  • Proven hands-on experience managing and optimizing Google Ads and Meta Ads campaigns.
  • Strong working knowledge of Google Search, Performance Max, Display, YouTube, remarketing, and Meta campaign strategies.
  • Experience managing paid media for multiple clients or accounts simultaneously; advertising agency experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate campaign data into actionable recommendations.
  • Experience with conversion tracking and analytics, including GA4, Google Tag Manager, Google Ads conversion tracking, and Meta Pixel.
  • Ability to troubleshoot tracking, campaign, disapproval, and performance issues independently.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly explain strategies, results, challenges, and recommendations to both clients and internal team members.
  • Highly organized, responsive, and comfortable working independently while meeting deadlines and managing multiple accounts.
  • Google Ads certifications and Meta certifications are preferred.
  • Prior advertising agency experience is a strong plus.
Location & Contract Requirements
  • This is a contract position.
  • Candidates must be currently based in the United States and authorized to work in the U.S.
  • This position is intended for a U.S.-based individual contractor; we are not seeking offshore agencies or overseas contractors for this role.
  • Houston-area candidates are preferred for occasional in-person collaboration; however, highly qualified U.S.-based remote candidates may also be considered.
  • Candidates should be available for collaboration and communication during normal U.S. business hours.
What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who goes beyond simply maintaining campaigns. The right person will take ownership of performance, proactively spot opportunities and problems, communicate clearly, and continually look for ways to generate better results for our clients.

When applying, please include a brief overview of your Google Ads and Meta Ads experience, the types and approximate sizes of accounts/budgets you've managed, and examples of measurable results you've achieved.
