Job description

About Sapio Sciences

Sapio Sciences is on a mission to accelerate scientific discovery and high-throughput clinical and diagnostic services. We bring together scientists, engineers, and industry specialists to build a unified lab informatics platform that helps organisations move faster, work smarter, and generate deeper insight from their data.

Artificial intelligence is central to how we innovate and operate. Within our platform, AI enhances how laboratories structure, interpret, and act on scientific data. Across our business, we apply AI thoughtfully to improve efficiency, scalability, and decision-making. It is not an add-on or future ambition. It is embedded in how we build, deliver, and continuously improve.

Our platform unifies ELN, LIMS, and scientific data management within a highly configurable environment. Scientists, laboratory professionals, and bioinformaticians rely on Sapio to manage end-to-end laboratory operations, from instrument integration and experiment setup to sample management, data analysis, and reporting. We design solutions that are powerful yet practical, enabling teams to focus on science rather than systems.

Working at Sapio

Our EMBRACE values guide how we work and grow together. We take ownership of our outcomes, collaborate openly across functions and geographies, and remain curious about how science and technology can evolve. We are accountable to each other and to our customers, and we measure our success by the real-world impact our platform enables.

Working at Sapio means being part of a lean, growth-focused team where ownership is expected and progress matters. We value colleagues who are motivated by impact and comfortable operating in an evolving environment.

At Sapio, you will work alongside people who care deeply about advancing drug discovery and improving laboratory operations worldwide. Ideas are encouraged, initiative is recognised, and professional growth is supported. As a scale-up, we move with pace and purpose, balancing innovation with responsibility.

We partner with laboratories around the world, from emerging biotech companies to global pharmaceutical and diagnostics organisations, who trust Sapio to deliver intelligent, science-aware solutions that support discovery, development, and diagnostics.

Position Summary:

The Business Development Associate is the front line of Sapio Sciences' growth engine, responsible for generating and qualifying pipeline that fuels our Strategic Accounts team. This role owns the full top-of-funnel motion: building targeted prospecting lists using ZoomInfo, LinkedIn, and event data; running multi-touch outreach across email, phone, and LinkedIn; and leading sharp, consultative discovery conversations with buyers ranging from VPs of Informatics to lab directors and procurement leads. Success requires meeting monthly targets for booked meetings and created opportunities, maintaining immaculate CRM hygiene in HubSpot, and serving as a conduit for market intelligence, feeding real-time buyer language, objections, and competitive signals back to Marketing and Product.
The ideal candidate is self-directed, coachable, and genuinely curious about how life science labs operate and where software can remove friction. This is a high-velocity, metrics-driven role for someone who wants to build a career in SaaS sales within the life sciences space, with a clear growth path toward Account Executive.

What you'll be doing in this role:

Pipeline Generation: Own It from Zero
Build your own prospecting lists. Use ZoomInfo, LinkedIn, event attendee lists, and your own research to find the right people at the right accounts.
Run multi-touch outreach sequences across email, phone, and LinkedIn, and iterate until something lands.
Hit and exceed monthly targets for meetings booked and opportunities created. Know your numbers cold.
Don't just generate volume, generate quality. Understand the difference between a contact and a prospect.

Discovery Calls: Lead the Conversation
Run first-call conversations, not scripts. Ask sharp questions. Uncover pain. Know when to disqualify.
Articulate Sapio's value proposition with clarity and conviction, to a VP of Informatics, a lab director, or a procurement lead. Adjust your pitch accordingly.
Pass only qualified opportunities to Account Executives.

CRM & Data Hygiene: Non-Negotiable
HubSpot is your source of truth. Every call, every email, every outcome, logged accurately and on time.
Proactively clean up stale contacts, duplicate records, and outdated account data. Don't wait to be asked.
Build your sequences and workflows inside CRM. No parallel tracking in spreadsheets.

Market Intelligence, Be the Ears
Feed intel back to Marketing and Product. What objections are you hearing? What language do buyers use? What conferences are they showing up to?
Stay current on industry news, M&A, and regulatory shifts that affect lab informatics buying behavior.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work tightly AEs on target account strategy and coordinate on active sequences.
Support Marketing by executing outreach from campaigns, events, and content programs.
Flag patterns, good and bad quickly. This team moves fast and expects the same from you.

What we are looking for:

Relentlessly coachable. You want feedback and you act on it.
Comfortable with rejection. You treat objections as information, not defeat.
Self-directed. You don't need someone to tell you to make calls. You make calls.
Detail-oriented. Your CRM hygiene is immaculate. Your follow-ups are on time. You don't drop balls.
Curious. You genuinely want to understand how life science labs work, what slows them down, and how software changes that.

Required skills and abilities:
1-3 years in a BDR, SDR, or outbound sales role, ideally in SaaS, life sciences, or enterprise software.
Demonstrated track record of hitting targets (bring the numbers).
HubSpot or equivalent CRM experience, not just 'familiarity,' but daily active use.
Strong written and verbal communication. Your cold emails get replies. Your calls get scheduled.
Bonus: exposure to LIMS, ELN, bioinformatics, or lab automation software. Interest counts if experience doesn't.
Our People

At Sapio Sciences, our people are at the heart of everything we do. Our lab informatics solutions are powered not just by technology, but by a shared commitment to our core values-what we proudly call The Sapio Seven, aka EMBRACE:
Embrace the future
Make a difference
Be true partners
Remember why we're here
Act with empathy
Commit to transparency
Excel in quality

These values shape how we work, how we grow, and how we deliver impact for our clients every day.

Reasonable Adjustments

We are committed to ensuring an inclusive and accessible recruitment process. If you require any reasonable adjustments, at any stage across the application, interview & assessment processes then please let us know. We will work with you to support your needs in confidence.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

We do not discriminate based on race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, genetic information, disability, or any other status protected by law or regulation. We intend that all qualified applicants be given equal opportunity and that selection decisions are based on job-related factors. We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace and encourage applications from all qualified individuals.
We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans.
