Job Title: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
Location: Auburn, CA
Employment Type: Per-Diem - Must be able to work one weekend a month
Hourly Pay Range: $20.00 – $26.00

Position Summary

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct, compassionate care to the Sisters of Mercy in accordance with individualized care plans, state regulations, and required training and certification standards. This role demonstrates respect for the dignity, privacy, and individuality of residents, guests, and coworkers, while integrating the mission and values of the Sisters of Mercy into daily work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide personal care to residents under the supervision of a licensed nurse, including bathing, oral hygiene, dressing, skin care, nail care, and grooming.

  • Assist with nutrition needs, including serving meals and snacks, assisting with dining, filling water containers, and encouraging hydration.

  • Respond promptly to call lights and communicate resident needs to nursing staff.

  • Engage residents through appropriate activities such as reading, walking, games, and conversation.

  • Maintain clean and orderly resident rooms, infirmary areas, dining spaces, and supply rooms.

  • Assist with setting up and clearing dining areas and stocking supplies and linens.

  • Safely transport, ambulate, and transfer residents using wheelchairs, walkers, Hoyer lifts, and other assistive devices.

  • Follow nursing department policies, procedures, and standards of care.

  • Participate in staff meetings and care conferences as required.

Safety Responsibilities
  • Follow all safety procedures and report hazardous conditions, incidents, or defective equipment immediately.

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.

  • Respond calmly and appropriately in emergency situations.

Qualifications

Required

  • Current California Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license.

  • Current CPR certification.

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Valid state driver’s license with no moving violations.

  • Minimum of one year of experience working with older adults.

  • Ability to work flexible hours.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize responsibilities.

Preferred

  • Experience working in a faith-based or mission-driven environment.

  • Willingness to understand and respect the traditions and culture of the Sisters of Mercy and the Catholic Church.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Prior Med Tech (MT) experience in an assisted living setting.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 30 pounds frequently.

  • Ability to push wheelchairs with residents weighing up to 200 pounds on level and inclined surfaces.

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and safely operate care equipment.

  • Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to read small print, distinguish basic colors, and communicate clearly in English.
