Reporting to the Head of Strategy and Market Insights of Process Solutions (PS), the Strategy Development Manager will work across functions, including marketing, franchise, R&D, commercial and operations, to develop and support the execution of the Process Solutions strategy.
The Strategy Development Manager will work as an individual contributor in a highly collaborative manner and a global context with co-workers to identify growth drivers. You are able to develop data-driven approaches to deeply understand the market, competitive landscape, and customer needs of today and tomorrow and is comfortable with ambiguity.
The Strategy Development Manager is able to articulate key findings to senior business leaders and to establish credibility, trust, and respect across the organization to be seen as a true thought partner. You will need to be able to appropriately balance multiple priorities and work against tight timelines. Given the high visibility to senior management, this role presents excellent career advancement opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support the strategy development process within PS in close partnership with the business
    • Identify market, industry, customer trends and translate into relevant insights for BioProcessing
    • Define and prioritize emerging growth opportunities and articulate strategic options for BioProcessing
    • Develop business plans for new initiatives, including financial modeling
  • Partner with peers in market intelligence, strategy, and business operations to ensure plans are grounded in facts and are implementable
  • Act as partner to Business Development team to support M&A prioritization and target assessment
  • Lead/support select strategic projects across functions and our Process Solutions business, using internal and external resources,
  • Establish strong relationships across Merck Life Science to ensure alignment with overall organization and understanding of our business
  • Impact a range of strategic customer, operational, or service priorities within own team and other related teams
  • Location for this role can be either for US, EU, Singapore

Education and Experience
  • B.A. or B.S. degree (or equivalent) in life science or engineering required
  • Advanced degree in a quantitative field (MBA, Masters or PhD) preferred
  • At least 3 years of experience required
  • At least 2 years of Management consulting experience required, ideally at a top tier firm
  • Solid understanding of the pharma/life science space required

Location
This is a site based role, located in our Burlington, MA office and requires a weekly onsite presence. We do offer a hybrid flexible work arrangement.

  • Deep understanding of Process Solutions market and business
  • Proven experience in strategic planning and analysis required through mix of experience in consulting, strategy roles, preferably in Process Solutions
  • Superior analytical skills, strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities
  • Sharp business acumen, experience with financial statements a plus
  • Communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills-
    • Simplify highly complex analyses to right level of detail with a bias for action
    • Compellingly articulate, influence, and work successfully with varied audiences across all levels of the orginization
  • Strong project management and facilitation skills, including experience with managing cross-function matrix teams
  • Highly self-motivated and results-driven with demonstrated agility to multitask, manage time, handle uncertainty, and work under pressure with limited direction
  • Excellent computer skills, especially Powerpoint and Excel required
  • Experience with digital analytics (e.g. Tableau) preferred
  • Ability to travel 10-20% including international trips
  • Fluent in spoken and written English, additional language a plus

Pay Range: $130,900-$196,800
The offer range represents the anticipated low and high end of the base pay compensation for this position. The actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level of experience, education, skills, and other job-related factors. Position may be eligible for sales or performance-based bonuses. Benefits offered by the Company include health insurance, paid time off (PTO), retirement contributions, and other perquisites.
