Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Non-Merch Procurement Category Managers are accountable for all supply management activities (i.e., strategic sourcing, contract negotiation, supplier risk management) within an assigned scope of spend categories (e.g., transportation & logistics). Within their category, Category Managers are expected to partner with internal business customers to define business objectives and benefit targets. In addition, the Category Manager are expected to stay abreast of key suppliers and industry trends within their spend category in order to understand the implications on cost, quality and risk. From these inputs, Category Managers are to develop supply management strategies to achieve their respective business objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Performs internal assessment of current and future business needs within assigned spend category to develop understanding of key supply requirements.
  • Conducts external assessment of key vendors and trends within their category to understand supply market dynamics and future impacts.
  • Leads cross-functional teams to execute category strategy including specification determination, strategic sourcing, supplier selection and contract negotiation.
  • Develops qualitative and quantitative models to assess the total cost of ownership of alternative sourcing strategies and risk profiles.
  • Accountable for delivering sourcing results and achieving business objectives within assigned spend category (e.g., savings targets and/or process improvements).
  • Drives incremental value through using continuous improvement tools to identify opportunities for innovation and collaboration with key suppliers.
  • Monitors ongoing performance of key suppliers, and reports results via supplier scorecards at quarterly business reviews.
  • Provides regular communication to management to keep them abreast of all key initiatives and vendor activities within assigned spend category.
  • ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in business, supply chain management or similar technical discipline and/or four to seven years of procurement experience
  • Must have substantial knowledge/experience in assigned spend category (e.g., construction)
  • Must have technical competency in Microsoft Office and knowledge of modern procurement tools (e.g., e-sourcing, CLM, P2P, etc.)
  • CPSM certification preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY
  • Ability to learn quickly and think strategically / creatively
  • Operates in a proactive and dynamic manner, drives a sense of urgency
  • Possesses strong analytical and negotiation / persuasion skills
  • Able to facilitate cross functional teams and lead change management initiatives
  • Able to communicate complex concepts effectively to internal and external stakeholders

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Occasional visits to key suppliers to evaluate capabilities

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Regular computer work and sitting
  • Intermittent walking, standing, and lifting.

INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT:
  • Develops objectives and general policies and procedures for a specific program or functional area of responsibility within general scope of established operational goals and plans. Day-to-day work and decisions do not require direction or review by immediate supervisor. End results are reviewed by supervisor.
