What does a MEP inspector do?

As a MEP Inspector, your workday often involves conducting site inspections to verify that mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installations meet regulatory standards and project specifications. You will review technical drawings, prepare detailed reports, and work closely with contractors, project managers, and engineering teams to address any issues or discrepancies. What You’ll Do:

  • Collaborate with the MEP Superintendent, Project Manager, Project Engineer, and other Superintendents on site setup, sequencing, and logistics.
  • Participate in site walks to document existing conditions and help identify preconstruction risks.
  • Support long-lead item tracking, trade mobilization planning, and permitting coordination with AHJs.
  • Assist with BIM coordination reviews to help identify constructability concerns and potential clashes.

Project Execution & Field Leadership

  • Support daily site operations and assist with coordination of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, low-voltage, and building automation systems.
  • Track work progress, assist with T&M documentation, and provide field information to support forecasting and cost control efforts.
  • Participate in daily and weekly subcontractor coordination meetings and follow up on assigned action items.
  • Help identify field issues or delays early and elevate recommended mitigation plans to the MEP Superintendent.
  • Assist with field inspections to verify installation accuracy, quality, and design compliance.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs, field documentation, as-built notes, and RFI support materials.
  • Support MEP schedule updates, commissioning readiness, sequencing, material flow, and BIM-based installation planning.

Team, Client & Safety Leadership

  • Represent FCL professionally on site while supporting strong relationships with owners, consultants, inspectors, and trade partners.
  • Communicate with field teams to help align scope, schedule, responsibilities, and daily work plans.
  • Support jobsite safety by participating in toolbox talks, JHAs, site orientations, and enforcement of site-specific safety protocols.
  • Help maintain compliance with building codes, facility rules, client requirements, and FCL safety standards.

What We’re Looking For:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 3 years of field experience in commercial, industrial, or mission-critical construction, with exposure to MEP coordination preferred.
  • Working knowledge of construction sequencing, subcontractor coordination, site logistics, and quality control.
  • Familiarity with MEP systems, critical infrastructure, commissioning activities, and technical field documentation.
  • Ability to support daily reporting, field coordination, issue tracking, and follow-through on active job sites.

Nice to Have:

  • OSHA 30 Certification.
  • Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, BIM, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with IST protocols, commissioning documentation, and system turnover processes.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary, bonus structure
  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
  • Career development and mentorship programs
  • Comprehensive and competitive benefits (health, dental, vision and so much more!)
  • Paid time off and holidays
