Post Anesthesia Care Unit Registered Nurse

Position Overview: Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is seeking dedicated Registered Nurses to join our Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) team. BIDMC operates two distinct surgical suites, each supported by its own specialized PACU:

OR West PACU (Main / Level I Trauma): A fast-paced, high-acuity 24/7 unit supporting Level I trauma, complex surgical specialties, and emergency interventions.

OR East PACU (Specialized & General Surgery): A growing unit focusing on specialized and general surgical cases, expanding its hours to accommodate late-day surgical coverage and extended recovery volume.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct, high-quality post-anesthesia care (Phase I and Phase II recovery) to adult patients emerging from general, regional, or local anesthesia.
  • Monitor vital signs, airway management, pain control, and neurological status while managing post-operative complications or emergencies.
  • Collaborate closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, surgical techs, and the broader perioperative care team.
  • Educate patients and their families on post-operative care, recovery expectations, and discharge planning.
  • Document patient care and clinical assessments accurately in EPIC.

Qualifications:

  • Education: BSN required (or actively enrolled in a BSN program).
  • Licensure: Active Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Certifications: BLS and ACLS required upon hire. CPAN or CCRN certification preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of recent critical care experience in a PACU, ICU, or Emergency Department. Level I Trauma experience preferred for OR West positions.
