Medium Voltage Supervisor Jobs (NOW HIRING)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following are the essential duties and responsibilities the incumbent must be able to perform.

• Assigns, coordinates, supervises, and evaluates work of employees in the Low Voltage Shop.

• Analyzes and resolves work-related problems.

• Manages, evaluates, and maintains the campus Central Alarm System components, including but not limited to: Fire Alarm, Intrusion Alarm, Panic Alarm systems.

• Manages, evaluates, maintains, and supports campus electronic access control, video surveillance, emergency phones, telecommunications infrastructure, and associated network connected devices.

• Collaborates with the Building Automation Systems team to support network infrastructure, field devices, communications pathways, and integration of BAS-related systems.

• Verify and approve time and attendance through time tracking portal.

• Verify and approve daily technician billing data.

• Prepares labor and material estimates for work orders and other trade requests and initiates purchase orders for materials/services needed.

• Complete workorders and associated paperwork. Ensures accurate documentation of work performed, preventive maintenance activities, asset information, and project records within the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).

• Coordinate with the IT Department regarding network connectivity, cybersecurity requirements, server infrastructure, network maintenance, and the installation and integration of campus low-voltage systems.

• Test and repair emergency phones and oversee TELCO manholes and dig alert notifications.

• Maintains an inventory of tools and materials in the shop, and requisitions materials as needed.

• Recommends ways to improve work methods and quality, and to insure efficiency of equipment and shop performance.

• Perform trade duties and responsibilities as needed. Assignments may require working in difficult positions such as kneeling, bending, and reaching, as well as from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms; heavy lifting may be required.

• Coordinates and oversees the activities of outside contractors, consultants, vendors, and service providers performing work related to low-voltage systems.

• Plan and inspect installation of equipment according to blueprints, schematic drawings, and sketches.

• Review plans / specifications and provide recommendations for design / construction / changes.

• Inspects work in progress for conformity to specifications and codes. Provide "as built" information/data for plans/drawings.

• Subject to the approval of the Director of Central Facilities Services, screen, select, evaluate, and make recommendation for promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary actions for shop employees.

  • Provide training in CFS procedures and applicable TCCS policies.

  • Provide ongoing coaching that is balanced, constructive, and timely and contributes to a work environment of open communications, ownership of duties, and trust.

  • Clearly communicate job requirements and expectations. Provide training and resources to support the performance of work duties.

  • Address performance issues in a timely manner with appropriate follow up and documentation. Collaborate with the VP and Human Resources as needed.

  • Investigate and prepare initial documentation for work-related performance issues and employee concerns.

• Evaluates workload on a continuing basis and makes recommendations for hiring or layoff when required.

• Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, local, fire, electrical, and building codes, including NFPA, and other applicable standards.

• Evaluates training needs and ensures staff maintain required certifications, licenses, and technical competencies associated with assigned systems.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility:

• Number of Direct Reports: Five (5)

• Recruit, select, train, evaluate, and develop staff.

• Clearly communicate job requirements and expectations.

• Coordinate training and resources to support the performance of work duties.

• Provide ongoing coaching that is balanced, helpful, timely, and contributes to a work environment of open communication, ownership of duties, and trust.

• Address performance issues early, create appropriate documentation, and ensure follow through. Collaborate with Human Resources as needed.

• Complete annual written performance reviews.

QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications are required to perform the essential functions of this position, or the individual must be able to demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed (with or without reasonable accommodation) using other qualifications not listed below.

Education:

• High school diploma or the equivalent in education, training, and experience.

• Completion of electrician apprenticeship or electrician vocation education course

• Fire/Life Safety Certification from the State of California Department of Industrial Relations.

• NICET Level II Certification.

Experience:

• At least five years of relevant trade experience, including at least one year of supervisory experience.

• Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, and develop employees by sharing technical knowledge, providing constructive guidance, and fostering professional growth within the team.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Fluent language skills in English, including the ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend.

• Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, determine linear measurements, compute areas and volumes of conventional shapes and forms, and compute approximate weight of objects.

• Ability to climb ladders, crawl in attics and under buildings, lift and carry heavy equipment, bend, stoop, work from heights, and work in uncomfortable positions.

• Ability to work under all weather conditions.

• Be able to be contacted by telephone during non-working hours.

• Be available for overtime work and to be on-call.

• Be able to wear protective clothing and equipment as required by the tasks being performed.

• Be able to work in a safe manner, follow proper procedures, and comply with Cal/OSHA, OSHA requirements, and NFPA standards as applicable to work.

• Promote and enforce safe work practices in accordance with TCCS policies and procedures.

• Effective and professional communication skills with a diverse population of employees, TCCS leadership, vendors, and contracted personnel.

• Present a neat and professional appearance and be capable of performing all tasks and presenting oneself in a manner that reflects favorably on CFS and TCCS, and of promoting the interests of these organizations throughout The Claremont Colleges and TCCS.

Other:

A valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable to TCC's automobile liability insurance provider.

Preferred Qualifications:

• NICET Level III and IV Certification

• C-7 or C-10 license issued by the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB),

• Manufacturer certifications such as: Bosch, Honeywell, Schneider, Potter, Silent Knight, Farenhyt, Microkey

Work Schedule: The regular hours for this full-time position are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Will be added to the on-call rotation to include weekends. May be required to work holiday, weekend, and/or evening hours. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the organization or business unit.

Physical Requirements:

• A valid driver's license and satisfactory results on the following post-offer pre-employment driving record check.

• This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding work on a continuous basis and involves prolonged standing and walking, frequent movement into varying body positions, and regular climbing of ladders, stairs, scaffolding, or similar structures.

• The role routinely requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials, equipment, and objects weighing up to 20 pounds, as well as working in indoor and outdoor environments under varying weather and environmental conditions, including noisy, confined, elevated, or low-ventilation spaces.

• Employees must be able to safely operate vehicles, equipment, or machinery, including street-legal golf carts and company vehicles, communicate effectively in person and by phone or other devices, read and interpret printed or electronic materials, and occasionally perform computer-based work requiring repetitive hand and wrist movement.

• Required safety practices include wearing designated uniforms, non-slip or work shoes, andappropriate personalprotective equipment (PPE).

Pay: The pay range for this position is $7,000-$7,725 per month.
