Job Summary:


Under direct supervision, provides surgical and technical assistance to oral and maxillofacial surgeons in the treatment of patients requiring oral and maxillofacial procedures.


Essential Job Functions/Duties

  • Functions as surgical scrub technician for outpatient surgical procedures carried out by oral and maxillofacial surgeons
  • Prepares patients and surgical instruments for outpatient oral and maxillofacial procedures.
  • Gathers, checks and opens supplies and equipment needed for the surgical procedure
  • Places IVs for sedation and assists the surgeon with medication administration during sedation procedures.
  • Calculates and administers IV medication upon surgeon order
  • Sets up the procedure table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for the procedure
  • Anticipates and gathers additional instrumentation, equipment and supplies for use during procedures
  • Anticipates the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies to surgeon during procedure
  • When not directly assisting with the surgical procedure, the surgical technician circulates in the operatory to assure all patient needs and documentation requirements are met
  • Enters procedural notes on all patients into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Provides pre-operative and post-operative education to patient and caregiver
  • Assists surgeon in utilizing specialized equipment i.e. Medit scanner
  • Captures CBCT/Panoramic X-rays
  • Sterilizes equipment with ultrasonic cleaner and autoclave per manufacturer’s directions.
  • Assemble surgical trays in preparation for the day’s cases
  • Ensures OSHA/DHEC/HIPAA requirements are maintained
  • Ensures highest level of customer service and office etiquette is used
  • Participates in clinical in-service/training opportunities when available
  • Completes required annual training
  • All other duties as assigned by management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • X-ray Certification
  • DAANCE Certification (must obtain at 6 months of employment)

Required Qualifications:

  • BLS Certification
  • A valid Driver’s License
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Completed Dental Program or comparable experience
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent customer service skills
