Job Description for NEMT driver

Overview

Reliance Medical Transport is looking for a part-time/on-demand Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) Driver to become a vital part of providing safe, reliable, and compassionate transportation services to individuals needing medical appointments, community outings, and other essential trips. Opportunity to turn to a full-time position as volume grows. As an energetic and dedicated driver, you will operate an NEMT van, ensuring timely and comfortable rides for clients with diverse needs. Your role is crucial in supporting community health and mobility, all while adhering to strict safety standards and transportation regulations.

Duties

  • Safely operate the NEMT van, ensuring compliance with all traffic laws and state transportation regulations
  • Assist passengers with wheelchair boarding and disembarking, providing excellent customer service and ensuring their comfort throughout the trip
  • Maintain cleanliness and basic maintenance of vehicles to ensure safety and reliability for every ride
  • Use GPS navigation systems to follow designated routes efficiently while adapting to real-time traffic conditions
  • Communicate effectively with clients, dispatchers, and team members to coordinate schedules and address any concerns promptly
  • Handle heavy lifting when assisting passengers with mobility devices or luggage in accordance with safety protocols
  • Document trip details accurately in logs and reports, including mileage, passenger counts, and any incidents or maintenance needs

Experience

  • 2+ years of previous NEMT driver experience is preferred. EMTs can be considered.
  • Wheelchair handling training and CPR certification is required. Can pay for the training.
  • Experience operating passenger vans or medical transportation vehicles is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, safety standards, and client confidentiality requirements HIPAA
  • Strong communication skills for engaging positively with clients with compassion in mind
  • Ability to perform manual handling tasks safely while assisting passengers or managing luggage
  • Valid driver’s license appropriate for the vehicle type along with a clean driving record
  • Background check and drug test will be required
