Description
Job Purpose: As a WEM Tester, you will safely pressure and/or leak test grey iron, ductile iron, steel and stainless-steel castings, while following all Work Instructions. You will be required to maintain the highest level of quality and report results accurately.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assemble parts for loading on testing bench.
  • Visually examine parts for defects such as cracks and pin holes.
  • Measures results of pressure test and logs data.
  • Separates and marks defective parts according to job specifications and department procedures.
  • Files/deburrs surplus metal from parts as needed.
  • Accurately stamp parts after successful completion of test.
  • Disassembles parts after testing is complete.
  • Tag & move parts to staging area for storage.
  • Prepare proper work order/routing documentation.
  • Tests boilers, tanks, fittings, pipes, and similar objects to detect and locate leaks, using compressed air or water pressure: Installs fittings on object to seal outlets and connects object to high-pressure air or water line, using hand tools.
  • Activates air compressor or water pump until gauge registers specified internal pressure.
  • Observes gauge for loss of pressure indicative of leaks and examines object for escaping air or water to detect leaks.
  • Marks object at source of leaks for subsequent repair.
  • May apply soap solution to surface of object or immerse object to facilitate location of air leaks.
  • May test object under high pressure to ensure compliance with product safety ratings.
  • May be designated according to type of test used as Hydrostatic Tester; Pneumatic Tester.

Requirements
A. Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
B. Experience: 1-3 months experience in simple assembly. Experience in a metals manufacturing environment is a plus.
C. Technology Aptitude/Skills: Problem solving skills necessary to deal with issues involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Must have ability to use basic high school math. Ability to read and interpret a tape measure required. Ability to read a machining scale a plus.
D. Functional Skills: Excellent prioritization, organizational and attention to detail are important in this role.
E. Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence and fill out daily labor and/or testing reports.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand/walk on production floor for 8+ hours per day.
  • Ability to walk up steps and stand on top of low platform.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers to grasp parts, change tooling, do pushing/pulling of tools, read and record pressure gauge results, etc.
  • Ability to write information in a logical flow.
  • Ability to read and respond on an on-going basis daily due to nature of the work, throughout the day
  • Ability to communicate with others in person.
  • Ability to walk, bend, reach, climb, stoop, kneel or crouch frequently.
  • Ability to lift and carry 30lbs to 60lbs on occasion.
