Position Overview

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Interrogates pacemakers and ICDs, monitor remote access of devices: interrogates/reprograms and troubleshoots patients with implantable pacemakers, ICDs and loop recorders.

  • Coordinates treatment and care for patients with devices. Interacts with clients, patients and Practice staff, providing patient care, communicating, organizing and resolving issues with regard to monitoring.

  • Presents patients to the doctor in clinic. Alerts doctor of any problems with patient or device.

  • Ensures accurate recording (saving to program), reporting (uploading, creating letters from template for physician review) and authorization (physician signature); Other data entry includes billing codes.

  • Coordinates clinic scheduling needs, including coordination of device tech vendors and representatives.

  • Enrolls patients electronically for remote monitoring and educate patients on device care and follow up including home monitoring instructions.

  • Provides proper support as medical assistant as necessary (prepare and room patient, take vitals/bp, conducts EKG or ECT, review meds). May perform INR for Coumadin and refill scripts, assist with clinical calls from patients, physician offices, hospitals and nursing homes. Handles nursing emails sent from offsite remote monitoring company.

  • Based on level of education and certification may complete treadmill stress tests; CVT: Complete non-invasive peripheral vascular tests by collecting ultrasound echoes.

  • Maintains equipment/systems, follow operating instructions; report hazardous conditions; troubleshoots calibrate equipment; follows preventive maintenance procedures; anticipates repair requirements; calls for repairs.

  • Promotes positive patient relations. Assures confidentiality of all information related to patients.

  • Organizes priorities and works independently and as a member of a team to complete tasks. Supports team to ensure delivery of excellent patient care by assisting with and assuming diversified tasks as required.

  • Demonstrates flexibility and cooperation in relation to workplace staffing and manpower needs by rotating as needed among various office locations.

  • Maintain a satisfactory working relationship with peers and superiors. Provide feedback to management to maintain and improve quality of service. Keep manager aware of potential issues as they arise.

  • Performs work-related duties in safe manner utilizing sound work practices, use of universal precautions, personal protective equipment, etc.

  • Demonstrate self-directed learning through in-service programs, education & QA activities.

  • Utilizes and maintains proficiency in all Practice tools, resources, and systems, including SRS, etc., to manage charts, templates, and messages. Maintains appropriate required certifications and training.

  • Maintains compliance with all Practice policies and protocols, department specific guidelines, and all federal, state and local regulatory standards, including JCAHO, Department of Health, HIPPA, HCFA.

  • Performs other duties as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Current certification in CPR Basic or Advanced Life Support (BLS or ACLS).

  • License/registry to perform CRAT (Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician) required.

  • Graduate of medical assistant certification program preferred.

  • Two years previous clinical experience in cardiac setting required. Previous experience with heart monitoring devices preferred.
